Trump is a symptom of the US Empire, not someone that dramatically changed the system into what it is today. The US began as a genocidal settler-colony, which it remains to this day, and grew into the world's imperialist hegemon after World War II. The rise of fascism in the US is a response to the decay in imperialism and the declining material conditions that come with that decay.

As a non-communist, I agree with this. Also Cowbee is a much nicer and more reasonable person than most people on their instance <3

Appreciated, but you could always become a communist!

Cowbee, honest question: Who are you arguing with?

MO didn't make any inference contrary to what you're saying.

I'm not really arguing. I saw someone make a point that, left alone, could leave people with the conclusion that the current fascism in the US is merely a whim of Trump and not part of a larger, ongoing systemic problem of the imperialist stage of capitalism. Considering that this is an anticapitalist community, not merely anti-Trump, I expanded the point a bit to hopefully connect the dots for some people that don't yet understand that this is capitalism itself driving it, and the problems will not go away just because someone else takes office.
