Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
The book addressed that area of thought much more in detail, but for starters the problem was more directly observable and promised near total extinction within a single lifetime.
Secondly, humanity didn't come together in a kumbaya moment, many had to be forced to comply. The woman in charge of Hail Mary project was a monster who nuked antarctica and was sent to prison when it was all over.
I still consider it far fetched but more to your point, solving the problem did not threaten the infinite growth model.
Do we know she was sent to prison? I know she said she would be.
I could be imagining, but in the movie they actually left a hint implying she did which I thought was neat.
I don't remember that latter half in the book? Maybe I should read it again
