also, wondering why madison avenue felt the need to write a small pamphlet worth of copy to sell everything?
I've noticed it was even more so in the late 18 or early 1900s. You'd get ads that were essentially a menacing wall of text over an entire page, with maybe a tiny picture of the product if you were lucky. Like this one for Dr Strong's Compound Pills. Examples like that abound from that era.
Dr. Bronner's Soap bottles are like that still, but I'm not sure if it's legacy or retro.
