My pet theory about why Anthropic and Open AI are pushing for a “pause” is because they are trying to angle for a government bailout before their bubbles pop.

The whole regulation thing just reminds me of some meathead out at a bar yelling "hold me back!" to his mates, knowing that he'd be absolutely destroyed if he were to actually fight.
