Around January 2022 I said something similar about Ukraine if Russia invaded.
Keep in mind that there will almost certainly be Americans that are willing to sabotage their own.
I'll admit Ukraine performed better than I expected, and Russia performed worse. Ukraine got a lot of foreign help, due in no small part to Russia's imminent threat to the rest of Europe, real or perceived. I don't know if the response if Canada was attacked would be the same, or greater, but I hope it is.
Article 5 is Article 5.
The EU could fall back on its own defensive pact, but that would mean losing the UK and Turkey.
Though if the US is smart about it they'll coordinate with a Russian invasion of the EU.
Likewise for Canadians. See: a large number of sellouts in Alberta.
Especially if the battlefield is near a blue state. NY comes to mind
