Glad I went to university in Australia where "really expensive" isn't a problem for domestic students.
For citizens, the government subsidizes it and pays 50-80% of the cost depending on the course (higher priority areas have better coverage). The remaining cost can be covered by an interest-free loan through the government (called HECS-HELP), and you only have to start paying off the loan once you earn more than AU$70k/year, which removes a lot of the stress. The repayments are automatically withheld by your employer as tax, the same way they withhold income tax.
(even though there's no interest, the loan is indexed for inflation once per year)
In the US the government pays up to 100% but then you have to pay the government back. Lose lose I guess. I pay the government in taxes, then I barrow money that has to be paid back with interest. Fucking for profit government, WTF
not all universities/state college, and there is stipulations.
In Germany you don't need a loan. Housing could be expensive if you study far from home but otherwise it's very cheap.
Yeah it's definitely not as good as countries where university/college is fully covered by the government, but it's also better than plenty of other countries too.
A lot of people in Australia just keep living with their parents while they go to university.
