Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I don't get the appeal of chicken wings. The amount of work involved vs the meat payout is way lopsided.
Chicken wings are only food on medium difficulty. Whole crabs take more energy to open than you gain from meat.
Yeah but chicken wings are medium effort for like 6/10 food while crab is high for 10/10 food
Trick is spear the meat and pull it out, instead of trying to open the leg.
For king crab, yes. For snow crab, you can open the leg with the right technique. Snap it in the middle and you can remove one half of the shell then pull the meat out of the other half.
I don't intentionally eat bugs so that's a non issue for me.
No bugs? I enjoy most of the sea bugs (with butter). Also eaten crickets, meal worms, and ant eggs/larvae.
I'm cool with someone else enjoying it, it's just not for me. 🤷
also, chicken wings come in sizes from "this looks like it was a baby" to "there is no way this chicken was healthy before slaughter"
I like a good midsize crispy wing with spices and just a dab of sauce.
eating slop bowls gets boring
Finally, a kindred soul. Everyone I knew in high school and college was obsessed with getting wings all the time. I don't get it
Sometimes I prefer food that takes work to eat because I know I'm not actually all that hungry, just bored.
I never understood the difficulty argument. It's not like these people would be open to just slamming a glass of Soylent because it's easy.
It's not an argument my dude, just a preference. I'm lazy and don't like wings much to begin with so the fact that they're extra effort just puts them down another notch. They're annoying.
Funny you mention that. I absolutely went through a DIY Soylent phase, but I was playing around with the recipe(s) via nutrition tracker apps, aiming to hit targets via "real" foods, not supplements, and aiming for "different" recipes. It's actually not as difficult as you might expect, and I don't even mind eating the same meal for a good chunk of my meals, but it just.... didn't.... work... Maybe it's the lack of chewing?
What do you mean by "didn't work?"
I was still "hungry". I was definitely getting calories, macros, etc., but I think it being in liquid form, no chewing, meant that some of the biological processes weren't getting the expected feedback.
Yeah, there was something strange about not masticating, but I did find it filling and unexpectedly satisfying.
Sometimes it's not all about how easy it is to eat something. Sometimes if something tastes good enough, I'm willing to put in the smallest amount of effort.
Every time I've had it I taste whatever was put on it, zero chicken taste. At that point you may as well just make little dumplings with batter and the seasonings and keep it boneless.
That’s why I go boneless “wings” instead. I make sure it’s actual dark meat pieces and not just nuggets though.
That's on the wings you choose.
If you have a Publix within range, for example, their "naked wings" are quite tasty. While they do season them lightly with salt and some sort of spice, they're basically just fried wings, but very tasty.

Well the appeal basically boils down to they’re fucking delicious; particularly when compared to other chicken parts seasoned in the same way.
Your focus on the meat of it all is probably your downfall. Fat brings the flavor and chicken skin is packed with it. Wings, far and away have the best skin to meat ratio of all the chicken parts.
Whole chickens. Taste the rainbow.

Cooking is supposed to be the difficult part and once I sit down to eat I don't want to work for the food any more! Just let me eat it.
After some practice, you only need two bites and maybe a little nibble for each one. Then they're great.
