I used to believe racism in the United States was overstated.

Sure, it existed. But it's not something widespread. Common. The claim americans are racists is ridiculous.

Well...I was wrong.

"Zohran Mamdani is a terrorist"

"Mamdani supports ISIS and HAMAS"

"New York City faces sharia law"

"Mamdani wants to MURDER jews"

The amount of shit published about this guy is absolutely insane.

He recently attended the 9/11 memorial ceremony.

At some point, he greeted congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and smiled for 5 seconds.

Immediatly, politicians went wild

Senator Ted Cruz:

Congresswoman Mary Miller :

Speaker Mike Johnson:

Here is the video. You can clearly see that he was stoic. He hugged her. Then he immediatly went back to being stoic.

Dude smiled 5 SECONDS in a 5 hour ceremony and they accuse him of celebrating 9/11

At the same ceremony, JD Vance and Howard Lutnick laughed and joked.

No one cares. They are white.

The US is more racist than I ever imagined.

White people in America aren’t a monolith. Reneé Goode and Alex Pretti were white

Just to address your actual comment, you're accusing me of treating white people as a monolith, but unfortunately if you read my comment, I didn't. I said ''white culture in the US''. This tells me two things, you're really upset someone might do something you've heard of being racist to white people, and you aren't educated enough to know about how synonyms aren't definitions, particularly when people are discussing cultural constructs like white identity in the US. white people aren't a monolith? correct, that's why I said white culture in the US, which is a thing outside of white people. White culture doesn't mean 'all white people in total' clearly many people the government is willing to consider white, don't care about white identity or superiority.

Your original comment is confusing then. I agree that whiteness is made up and meaningless aside from the power of perception and existing power structures. Your personification of white culture, mainly saying brown people suffering warms “their” hearts, is what hung me up.

Dude, I've had white people tell me in happy tones how much they yearn to go back to lynching. It's not coming from no where and nothing. this culture that existed before of literally trying to genocide anyone not white enough isn't suddenly gone, people are destroy civil rights for non whites right now. that culture still exists

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I never said otherwise. I explained the source of my confusion, at this point all I will say is we largely agree with one another.

i dont think they were doing white specifically, but USA as a whole is pretty racist. very right wing western country compared to other western countries. the most conservative governments too. it just happens that white people severely benefitted from being white and racist, and slavery, which they still do now.

and even non-racist whites benefitted socioeconomically from having white privilege.

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

did someone pass a law that white people aren't allowed to use public spaces or services?

just making you uncomfortable, I know you guys hate that, but you gotta get it when you can. enjoy the discomfort and keep fighting that good white fight for everyone to shut up about racism and never talk about it so you can stay comfortable not thinking about it.

I never said that I hated people fighting against racism or that it makes me uncomfortable lol.

But fallacies should never be done and should never be tolerated, because they'll mislead and are the very base of misinformation, disinformation and plainly crafted narratives.

You DON'T think white culture in the US has lead to clearly racist legal systems? This isn't a monitored harvard rules debate, quibbling about ''this isn't the SPECIFIC WAY to talk about racism'' is the entire fucking cornerstone of white supremacy in the US, it requires one thing. people like you saying what you're saying here. this isn't the way? I'm not white. keep talking about how we need less of me and my kids when you drive by their elementary school, and I'll keep explaining how racist you are, and I won't make you comfortable while I'm doing it. people who aren't into white culture norms DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE CONTEXT OF POINTING OUT RACIST SYSTEMS.

I do think that white culture does that. I'm a Latino and, while don't live in the USA, I know what the fucking bastard nazis of the ICE are doing to immigrants just because they're not white.

But the problem is that you started speaking about something that hadn't anything to do with what he was saying: he said that white people aren't a monolith, implying that not all of the white people are part of that white culture and as such aren't racist, then you responded with something about laws, so I said that it was a red herring fallacy and a non sequitur fallacy (you should read about what these are), because you assumed that he said something he never said. Is that so hard to understand? Anyway, I'll cut it here. Live a good life, and think a bit before you speak.

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

You don't live here. your not in their club, but your here to defend their culture. that you don't experience and aren't a part of. Bud when I say 'white culture in the US' I'm not taking about ANY white person. I'm taking about centuries of culture that plenty of pale people in the US don't like and don't fight for. why are you fighting for it? don't fucking do this.

[-] Kangae_Hishiryo@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Where the fuck I'm defending their shitty culture?

I just pointed out two fucking fallacies you made. It's that a defense of bigotry now? Stfu and gtfo

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

fuck me yourself, coward!

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I feel like this is a non sequitor, but no. I know the history of and do not deny redlining, Jim Crow, etc happened. That still doesn’t preclude the fact that plenty of white people are pissed about this Nazi ICE bullshit.

[-] Snowclone@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

those aren't white culture people, those are white people, there's a difference. those are the good ones.
