Renee Good’s family is suing the Trump administration and several federal officials over her fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer during an operation in Minneapolis in January, her family announced on Thursday.

In two civil lawsuits filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, Good’s family asserts a wrongful death claim against the United States and accuses federal officials and immigration enforcement agents of violating her civil rights, respectively.

White House aide Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her former aide Corey Lewandowski, former Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino, and ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who killed Good, are named as defendants in the second lawsuit.

Her mom and dad sure as fuk did. You have to be brain dead to not have seen the writing on the wall that ICE is not here to protect citizens

[-] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Indeed you would. I just didn't know their political leanings had been publicized.

Anyway, it's not about them. It's about making sure Ross, Miller, Trump, et al, face justice. A lawsuit won't do that, but it will keep this in the public's consciousness so that if we ever get a government willing to hold these fucks accountable, there will still be enough public pressure to make sure it happens. It will also hopefully help to surface more evidence.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip -5 points 1 day ago

You do know our taxes will fund this?? Just like our taxes fund all the senseless police corruption. Tell me you knew that, please?

[-] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Yes, and I'd appreciate if you stopped condescending to me.

Like I said, the real value in this is that it will a) keep ICE's murders in the public consciousness longer and b) hopefully surface more evidence that can be used in an eventual criminal trial for all these fascists.

I think they’re agreeing that someone would, indeed, have to be stupid not to see the writing on the wall about ICE

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip -1 points 1 day ago

Ahhh yes I get it now thanks lol I was like what

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

And you have to be braindead to think that shaming people for choosing to do the right thing is the way to change anyone's mind.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

These people always seem to change their tone ONLY when shit affects them. Yeah, no sympathy for people that call immigrants “terrorists”. The fuk is wrong with you?

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Settle down, this is a warning for a short break.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks for the warning. I’ll settle

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

I see you already did. You guys are both very passionate about your side, I get how it could easily cross the line. I appreciate you both letting it go. I have time to give you a warning today and you both were very sincere. Usually I don't have time and I would just ban you both for a day.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works -4 points 1 day ago

The fuck is wrong with you that you can't even spell the word 'fuck' correctly?

Sympathy isn't the same as not shaming people for choosing the right thing.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Settle down too Velma. This is a warning for a short break.

I see you already did further into the discussion. Kudos for calming the thread, no /s.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Thanks for being a fair mod, also no /s :)

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

These people’s votes have literally fuked this country up beyond belief. Now that everything is fuked we should forgive their views??? Fuk that!!!!

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

This is part of the first warning, settle down and discuss it.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago

Forgiving is also not the same as not shaming people for choosing the right thing.

They're suing the administration over their daughter's murder. They have spoken out and regretted their votes.

Yelling at and shaming people for choosing to the right things, even after they were wrong and maybe especially after they were wrong, is not effective at anything beyond soothing your own fucked up ego.

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah ok, woah. Its definitely good that the family is doing the right thing. But we also have absolutely no evidence that they wouldn't vote fascist again under a different banner. I'm not yelling, are you?

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I didn't accuse you of yelling, did I?

Do you think openly shaming people for changing in the right direction will encourage people to keep making the right decisions?

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 0 points 1 day ago

Nope, but I think you're being overly aggressive toward people in this thread who are mad about Good's UNNECESSARY death. None of this had to happen if ICE didn't happen. And ICE happened because people accidentally voted wrong so we should forgive them for the price of their child? She was a person!

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago

I think you’re being overly aggressive toward people

Toward 1 user, let's be clear here. Just like I wasn't accusing you of yelling.

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

Yep I came in here, noticed you being aggressive toward multiple users, got a vibe that you either are a family member or were involved in a similar situation and got in your feelings about it. The point is that the racism following 9/11 created ICE and the current admin decided to weaponize that racism to an incredible degree. And Renee got caught up in that nonsense. Its taxpayer's murder. And the people that voted for it, they should atone and feel regret, but the people who knew it was awful from the get go also get to speak their minds, bro.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago

It wasn't multiple users, it was one.

Yeah we're all here to discuss different topics. That's what the site caters to - discussions among people.

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

We agree to disagree about the approach

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago

You could at the very least not actively lie about me.

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Ok, wow. Thought this was an internet debate but I guess we are in a personal fight now. Bowing out, please be safe and sound. You win 100%.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago

I came in here, noticed you being aggressive toward multiple users, got a vibe that you either are a family member or were involved in a similar situation and got in your feelings about it.

You made it personal.

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"I love that my existence pisses you off"? We simply disagree. Don't bother you're tagged and blocked. I genuinely hope you are safe and well, person I disagree with mildly.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago

Went hunting for stuff in my post history? I'm so curious, did you find anything interesting beyond my pinned statement for the type of misogynists that send me nasty DMs?

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Like I said, their votes for Trump have affected so many innocent families for the last 10 years yet these people have had no empathy UNTIL one of their own felt the actions of the evil they voted for. Fuk these people
