Renee Good’s family is suing the Trump administration and several federal officials over her fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer during an operation in Minneapolis in January, her family announced on Thursday.

In two civil lawsuits filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, Good’s family asserts a wrongful death claim against the United States and accuses federal officials and immigration enforcement agents of violating her civil rights, respectively.

White House aide Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her former aide Corey Lewandowski, former Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino, and ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who killed Good, are named as defendants in the second lawsuit.

Yeah is there any way we can get more fact based reporting back? I'm tired of these headlines that intentionally soften the blow...

End qualified immunity. Tax payers shouldn’t foot this bill…

[-] Exeous@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Godspeed to the effort

yep, fuck her parents, they got what they voted for.

hopefully her partner and children are set for life, though. there's nothing that can replace losing your parent, and the government should make sure that they shouldn't ever need to struggle in life.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Exactly!! We can never forgive these people for putting us here. Maga ruined this country and this is only the beginning. Never forgive never forget

[-] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Are you saying Renee's family all voted for Trump?

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

Her mom and dad sure as fuk did. You have to be brain dead to not have seen the writing on the wall that ICE is not here to protect citizens

[-] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Indeed you would. I just didn't know their political leanings had been publicized.

Anyway, it's not about them. It's about making sure Ross, Miller, Trump, et al, face justice. A lawsuit won't do that, but it will keep this in the public's consciousness so that if we ever get a government willing to hold these fucks accountable, there will still be enough public pressure to make sure it happens. It will also hopefully help to surface more evidence.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip -5 points 1 day ago

You do know our taxes will fund this?? Just like our taxes fund all the senseless police corruption. Tell me you knew that, please?

[-] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Yes, and I'd appreciate if you stopped condescending to me.

Like I said, the real value in this is that it will a) keep ICE's murders in the public consciousness longer and b) hopefully surface more evidence that can be used in an eventual criminal trial for all these fascists.

I think they’re agreeing that someone would, indeed, have to be stupid not to see the writing on the wall about ICE

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip -1 points 1 day ago

Ahhh yes I get it now thanks lol I was like what

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

And you have to be braindead to think that shaming people for choosing to do the right thing is the way to change anyone's mind.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

These people always seem to change their tone ONLY when shit affects them. Yeah, no sympathy for people that call immigrants “terrorists”. The fuk is wrong with you?

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Settle down, this is a warning for a short break.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks for the warning. I’ll settle

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

I see you already did. You guys are both very passionate about your side, I get how it could easily cross the line. I appreciate you both letting it go. I have time to give you a warning today and you both were very sincere. Usually I don't have time and I would just ban you both for a day.

They're suing the administration over their daughter's murder. They have spoken out and regretted their votes.

Yelling at and shaming people for choosing to the right things, even after they were wrong and maybe especially after they were wrong, is not effective at anything beyond soothing your own fucked up ego.

[-] Townlately@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah ok, woah. Its definitely good that the family is doing the right thing. But we also have absolutely no evidence that they wouldn't vote fascist again under a different banner. I'm not yelling, are you?

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I didn't accuse you of yelling, did I?

Do you think openly shaming people for changing in the right direction will encourage people to keep making the right decisions?

Like I said, their votes for Trump have affected so many innocent families for the last 10 years yet these people have had no empathy UNTIL one of their own felt the actions of the evil they voted for. Fuk these people

[-] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 day ago

This is FALSE! Her parents voted EXACTLY for This to Happen!

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago

Their daughter was murdered and they're doing the right thing now.

[-] Space_Cowboy92@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

“Sure we voted to forcibly remove non whites from the country but now that it affected us personally we’re sooooo regretful of our vote.”

Why should we reward them now for only regretting something once they were personally affected? They sure don’t have an issue with it happening to the “others” or they wouldn’t have voted Trump in the first place.

I mentioned in another thread that yes, what happened to Good and Pretti shouldn’t be happening to anyone, but I will not feign sympathy because the people that voted for a policy they didn’t think would affect them, affected them.

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 day ago

Hey Velma, I bet this Cuban mother is flooding with happiness that the Goods had a change of heart about their votes after their own daughter was killed thanks to their votes. https://lemmy.ml/post/53451773

My apologies, I am

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip -5 points 1 day ago

Took em 10 years and countless, unnecessary harm to living beings but yes, now they’re doing the right thing…. For money. Yet the administration is unharmed since, you know, it’s our taxes that’ll be funding theses assholes votes. But yes they’re doing the right thing…. For money

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Ok.

Again, what do you think shaming people doing the right thing on Lemmy does beyond soothing yourself?

[-] funkreddit@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 day ago

They’re not doing the right thing. They’re capitalizing off their dead daughters tragedy. They voted to harm people. They never thought it would be their own people. That’s disgusting
