This is the main reason I hate quests. I would start something, not play for a month or so, come back and having to figure out where I had left off. By the time I was caught up, my gaming time was over.
Detailed quest log/journal is a must. I hate it when quest logs don't show what you've already completed.
Ok, I have to break into the office to steal the trophy but WHY? Talk to Fred, WHO THE FUCK IS FRED?
This is infuriating specially when doing multiple side quests in parallel.
The reason i dropped out of the worst in Stardew Valley: too many characters!
I had this issue too with stardew valley then i realized i can just not interact with all of them, i just remember the key ones and use the menu to view all characters names and faces if i need it for a quest
You can bet money I never remembered anyone's birthday or the upcoming town events. :(
You can buy a calendar as a house upgrade that tells you all this stuff!

It costs quite a bit on the start, you may try to see if there is any mod that add the calendar to the characters menu
At least you got that far. Usually I run out of time before mandatory updates are done.
