Name an intelligent person who's not educated. Just literally one. Education is the only thing an 'intelligent' person has. They recall what they know. Their education. I'm not talking about university, I'm talking about knowledge. I don't care about formal education. One's education is just their accumulated knowledge. Manifesting accumulated knowledge is intelligence. The only thing I can imagine is 'intelligence' is capacity for pattern matching.

A baby learning to cry for food has accumulated knowledge. A feral child surviving in the woods has accumulated knowledge. These are 'intelligent' beings no matter their environment. They're smart as hell and can pattern match to live. There is no such thing as 'intelligence' because all living animals exhibit it. Life itself is intelligence, sure. I'll admit that. "Actual intelligence" is just being a DNA based organism apparently. Sure. I agree.

My dad is pretty intelligent and didn't even graduate highschool.

Intelligence pertains to ability, not education.

Or do you think that intelligent people didn't exist until education? Because if that's the case, who created education?

Everyone has ability. Knowledge of possibilities is literally the only limiting factor in ability, all other things equal. You can do incredible things if you just knew about it and developed the neural pathways your brain literally is designed for. But you don't know about them, you haven't developed the neural pathways for them, therefore you think you can't do it. But you could if you have the capacity for doing all of it. The only limiting thing, really, is your ability to pattern match, which more things to pattern match against in your brain, the more things you can pull from to learn new things. Someone who can take their knowledge of piano and transfer that to guitar is as 'intelligent' as a person who can transfer knowledge from haskell to ocaml or from biology to chemistry or from history to politics.

Everyone has ability.

Idiots don't.

It's their choice to not utilize their ability that makes them idiots. Idiots have the capacity and don't utilize it. A person who lacks the ability is literally neurologically damaged. A person who's educated by a village of dumb idiotic, propagandized, indoctrinated people then what do you think they will pattern match from to the world around them?

So if education equals intelligence, who invented education?

[-] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I already said—DNA. It's an algorithm. It's gotten very far in keeping itself going, don't you think? The DNA-based tree of life has yet to go extinct after all of these years.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

DNA isn't education. What do you mean by that?

[-] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I said education is the accumulation of one's knowledge. The ability to acquire knowledge is from the DNA algorithm. The inventor of education is DNA. DNA is a stateful thing that changes over time.

I said education is the accumulation of one's knowledge.

By that metric, everyone is educated.

Everyone has an education. What that education is is obviously case-by-case

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
