In the continuing race to see who can throw transgender people under the bus most quickly, South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Annie Andrews has released a new direct-to-camera campaign ad in which she states that she does not support trans athletes playing in sports that affirm their gender identity.

Not OP and I get your point but I think if people are generally trying to figure out the correct words for things, esp when those things could upset someone, we should try to be a bit less dismissive. If someone uses the wrong word for a thing in my field (and it is a case where it actually matters) I try to gently correct them. OP seems sincere here, people are curious, and both of those are things to be encouraged I think. That said, I can understand how when you're having these interactions every day it can be exhausting.

Are you a doctor? In what capacity for my healthcare does that matter? On the very rare chance it is medically relevant I will let you know that I am a trans woman.

  4. No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
