In the continuing race to see who can throw transgender people under the bus most quickly, South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Annie Andrews has released a new direct-to-camera campaign ad in which she states that she does not support trans athletes playing in sports that affirm their gender identity.

She's a biological waste of space and a dumb cunt

Apparently the Democratic Party just decides their policy based on whatever republicans say it is. Fucking losers

[-] UpAndAtThem@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago

Such an obvious layup: If they do this disgusting shit to this cis woman, who's next? Do you want your daughters driven out of sports by genital exams? Personal privacy! Freedom!

Instead: hits self in head with hammer

SUPPORTING Trans people is a WINNING issue? Quick! THROW Trans people UNDER the Bus!

-LITERALLY Democrats!

[-] sun_is_ra@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 hours ago

Supporting trans people is a winning issue for Democrats but it's not for conservative Republicans.

This election specifically Democrats are hopeful they'd get votes from a large portion of traditionally Republican voters so they are pushing a bit on Trans to please Republicans but not too much that they lose their Democrat voters

Trump dubbed Andrews “Annie Trannie” in a social media post Monday and said she favored “Transgender for Everyone.” He also shared a commercial attacking her on transgender issues.

In a direct-to-camera ad, Andrews retorted, “I want you to hear me loud and clear: I don’t support biological men playing women’s sports and I don’t support and haven’t ever performed gender surgery for minors.” As she speaks, text reading “No men in women’s sports” and “No gender surgeries for minors” appears next to her.

With Republicans running the state house and senate, has two republican US senators and six of the seven house delegates are republicans this may be a stance you need to take to have a chance in South Carolina.

That's not just this election. That's been every election in my memory. They cling to this strategy, even though it keeps failing.

Surely this time they'll want a watered down version of the thing they keep going harder on!

Schumer bangs on about having an imaginary Republican couple in his head dictating his every action. If that isn't a big fuck you to the people who vote democrat I don't know what is.

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 hours ago

Appealing to no one, you say? Can't see how this strategy could fail yet again!

Trump's most successful ad during the campaign was against trans and he won the election.

Democrats are only 30% of voters. Trump wants that other 70% to vote for him.

Sure, he could be pro universal healthcare instead (he'd get almost all of that 70% if he was), but he'd lose a lot of "donations". Trans is an easy issue for him without any cost.

Damn. The next month is going to be a shit show.

[-] alapakala@quokk.au 4 points 2 hours ago

Democrat solidarity everyone.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 3 points 1 hour ago

Am I out of date on definitions already? Doesn't "biological male" refer to "biological sex," which while not synonymous with sex at birth is much more closely connected to it than gender?

[-] TRAHR@quokk.au 11 points 1 hour ago

Biological male is a transphobic dog whistle. And a binary application of biological sex itself isn’t good either, sex is complicated.

[-] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 37 minutes ago* (last edited 36 minutes ago)

Check this shit out. Sex and gender are not cut-and-dry, they're words we came up with. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-34290981

I hope she loses her election.

The alternative is sadly a Republican, which is even worse.

These people need to make their hate known before the midterms so they can be kicked out, now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate before they can try anything.

Harm reduction is when a liberal kills you politely.

now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate

The difference I've seen between cis-activists and trans-activists is that Trans people are done waiting.

I see more direct action in an LGBTQ aligned street corner than a No Kings parade.

Trans people will keep being trans. They'll keep helping each other transition. Fuck the law. Fuck the cops. And fuck any liberal fascist politician who tries to stop them.

[-] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 1 points 14 minutes ago

No. Her winning is worse than the Republican winning, at least for trans people. This is an infection in the Democratic Party, and every TERF Democrat that wins spreads the infection even more.

Just imagine telling a black person they had to vote for someone that supports segregated drinking fountains, all in the name of "the greater good.'

Some days I think. Do I just need to run for a political seat. I mean. For fucks sake.

Can we just get someone normal with baseline ethics ?

I don't want to go into politics.

It looks boring as hell and you have to listen to complaints all day and threats from corporate brats calling your office.

And the smear campaigns.

But I mean. Someone needs to do the job right.

Maybe someone who doesn't want to do it is the right person.

Idk.

Sometimes I just think about that.

I don't have any past b.s to be brought up. All my old nudie pics are from peak years. So even if someone shared those it would probably help me get elected not hurt me.

Idk. Sometimes I think maybe I should just try. My whole angle would be.

"I don't want this job. But y'all keep fuckin it up. So here we are."

Or

"Move aside. I'll fix it myself, fuckwits".

I have a cynical sense of humor. Some people might relate but Id probably piss a lot of people off.

I've been trying to tell all my friends how they need to run for local offices. Hell, half of those small positions aren't even opposed.

easy wins. Cushy state job.

Sit there and make it hard for people to get away with b.s. slow down the fascist. And help the progressives.

You can do that at any level of government if you play your cards right.

This election is to fill the vacancy left by Lindsay Graham (rot in piss), in case anybody was wondering like me why it wasn't six.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 hours ago

It's absolutely bizarre how easily Trump can just lead these assholes around by the nose.

[-] Oneshot@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 3 hours ago

The article points out she used to not be transphobic, electing "good" Democrats only does so much when the whole party is controlled opposition

[-] cogitase@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The NCAA, the WNBA, etc. are private organizations. There aren't any state or federal government-operated sports associations that I know of. Democrats fighting in deep red states like this should just turn the limited government argument on their opponents.
