Australia has had off-shore immigration detention since the 1990s, for most of that time it's been run by private security. Journalists and human rights organizations have been banned from entry. Manus Island, and Nauru being the two main camps holding immigrants. Obviously these places are known for their human rights violations.

There's also domestic detention centers that act as jails and prisons, many of which have consistently had aboriginal deaths in custody (to the point that the phrase "aboriginal deaths in custody" has it's own Wikipedia page.

Australia has never come to terms with its colonial past as a genocidal prison colony, so those qualities are now reproduced as tools of racism to brutalise select demographics.

It is a deep and ongoing product of a history that's never been processed or come to terms with culturally. These topics are barely skimmed in the education system if at all, with most of the underlying issues are successfully ignored.
