Being forced to sit is physical but hardly violence.
If you've been in a position of authority with kids somewhat recently, you know that the old "because I say so" just plain doesn't work anymore. If a kid starts playing Roblox videos on his phone during class I don't see the harm in yanking it out of their hands or forcing them to another room. What solution would you take that doesn't involve any physical contact at all?
Striking kids is a different thing entirely.
Schools usually have security officers who can come in and forcibly remove a disruptive student.
I usually go by the rule of No Touching. But if one student is touching another in a disruptive albeit not violent way (e.g. touching someone's hair without their permission) i think that is what I'd want the rule to enable: the teacher physically getting between them.
Having a discussion with them and their parents? Working it out like a reasonable human not some boomer who thinks force is the answer. The issue does not need to be address right there and then if it is annoying but not harmful, all that does is teach children that physical force is an appropriate response to minor annoyances.
I had rough teachers growing up and I had good teachers growing up, I know which one I want for my children.
yeah, agree. not sure why people are jumping to extremes here.
