The advice is in fact still good regardless of his economic status...As it just seems to mean not making a pest of one's self.
Rent and bills are still a thing, most people have demands on their time and can't just sit at home minding their own.
Yeah, I am not saying you don't work or find a way to pay those necessary bills. I literally said not being a pest, and that means not butting in the business of others unnecessarily. Like, there is an unspoken context in what Tom Hardy is saying; he ain't saying don't work or earn money to pay the bills. Don't become a pest and don't get involved in petty, pointless drama are the two undercurrents I feel are behind his words.
