Consensus reality (the way most people see the world and think it objectively works) is a social construct used by the bourgeois to control the workers. Turns out there is no objectivity, or if there is, it's beyond human science.

The rich and powerful use our belief in objectivity to control us. The news media, the church, corporate science, the government. They all have no care for objectivity, but they tell us the objective facts are whatever benefit them. That makes us weak, and them strong. Because they will change consensus reality according to their whims, and we will not.

To successfully revolt against capitalism, we must throw off their material chains, and their mental chains. We must embrace subjectivity, and intentionally manipulate our subjectivity for freedom, justice, and kindness. We must take back the means of ontological manufacture from the owning class!

So we are to just ignore science then? Is science also a tool of the bourgeoisie?

Science is not objective, it's deeply subjective. For example, humans are fish and there's no such thing as trees, according to a couple of bugs in the laws of taxonomy. While we can identify highly consistent laws at the fundamental level of physics, each added layer of complexity that drives science closer to our immediate perceptions, introduces more problems and bugs.

By the time we get to sciences like taxonomy, food science, and sociology which deal in our direct experiences, science is obviously almost entirely subjective. And I don't mean it's without merit. I mean that our opinions have a deep deep influence on the direction in which science develops. Our findings are true, given those opinions.

Science does not identify objective truth. Science expands knowledge from axioms. The more complex the things we deal with, the more axioms we must add. At the fundamental level, we have few axioms. At the socio-perceptual level, we have hundreds of unconscious axioms.

Antirealism advocates that we take control of our axioms, instead of denying them. Because if we deny them, we will be vulnerable to attempts to change them. We won't even notice when the media shifts them in us. But if we choose our axioms, then we choose what paths science goes down, we choose the future of our knowledge generation. We choose our world. And then science tells us about the world we have chosen.

clapping as they come down from the podium

"That was incredible! Where do we start?"

"I don't know, we just need to do something. Let someone else figure that out."

I recommend an immediate anarchist revolution, dismantling the state and giving control of the means of production to labour unions and the employees at the businesses who use them. In transitioning to a moneyless and stateless gift economy, we can turn to the experts in gift economics: Indigenous Australians, who have 65,000 years of experience in moneyless economics and the cultural constructs which support such a system. Things will not be the same as they were before colonisation. They will be something new, something we can discover together, if we learn from the past.

It does help to see people aware of the issues, even if they don't know how to personally solve the problems caused by massive, global, centuries-old patterns we're in the middle of. I don't know about you but I'd go nuts if I thought I was alone over here.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
