Well, a gymnastics routine is scripted. Cheer routines are scripted. They aren't always done his competition, though that is the part anyone not participating will see.
Martial arts are not scripted, but aren't inherently competitive. To the contrary, there's a pretty firm division between competitive fighting arts and non competitive ones.
Pro wrestling has scripted outcomes for sure. You don't "win" unless whatever company you wrestle for has decided you're getting an arc where you're the winner. But it is also very athletic. As much or more so than cheer, marital arts, or gymnastics. There's a degree of improvisation to it as well. You have a roughly mapped out plan going into the performance, but a big chunk of what happens in the ring is based on adapting to the mood of the crowd, positioning, the needs of the performers, etc.
In that regard, it's similar to dance.
It gets reported with sports, and has for decades. It's not a rare or recent occurrence. What is recent is LGBTQ representation in wrestling. That's big news, period. That a company decided that someone in that community was going to be allowed to win at all is really damn cool, even though I'm not a fan of pro wrestling overall.
