Why so many European countries are run by cowards with permanent knee pads on for the US is beyond me.
Fixed that for you.
We thought the USA were the good guys, it takes some time to adjust and elect new representatives.
It will take generations for the US to regain the trust and respect it once had.
Nah that's gone. It will take generation(s) to become a normal country we trust like a normal country. They really had it all; wealth, soft power, hard power, respect, trust, people saw up to them, wanted to be like them, and they just set it on fire, repeatedly, while dumping manure everywhere.
Amazing.
If history is any indicator, it will take one and a half generations of relative stability and everyone that matters will have forgotten. Probably there will be lingering, mostly misplaced bigotry (especially if there is nothing in the way of reparations) but there's too much potential in the resources (markets, raw materials, laborers, tourism, etc) here to stay sidelined for long. Look at Germany, the UK, China, Japan, Italy, or Belgium. Colonialism, screwing allies, even outright genocide is papered over as soon as the populace blinks to keep things moving.
Or there's the Bad Ending where far-right movements control more of the world and we're a successful part of the new Axis powers.
Takes about 100x longer for our corrupt politicians to realise the most basic truths, too :(
What do you mean? We have the least corrupt governments in the world here in Europe. Sure, shit happens from time to time, but just look at Orbàn!
