I'm a band shirt guy as well. Only beef I have is so many of them are Gildan and feel like a burlap sack. Sometimes I'll buy the shirt, and then steal the design and print it on a shirt of my choosing. Kinda like ripping a DVD I own to keep digitally. It's fine. It's fine!
Yeah, I wish there were more higher quality shirts out there, even if the price is higher, but I'm personally fine with Gildan too.
Going the DIY route, which method you're using and are you happy with the results? I've tried DTG before and it's fine at first, but it starts to deteriorate after some time. I haven't tried screen printing (ordering a design by myself), but I've heard from a friend of mine who does merch that it's just not cost effective for a one off.
My wife does Cricut but she also orders from Ninja Prints from time to time, and she heat presses. The majority of band shirts I get aren't built to last, and so these end up kind of on par with those. The sublimation prints come out a little nicer, but my wife's gotten pretty handy with her machine thing and has put together some decent enough designs. Sometimes I'm able to find her BMPs or PNGs, and if not she can vector JPEGs. But this was something she was into and doing and then I was like hey, while you're at it.
