Sometimes it's more about convincing the random lurkers reading everything than convincing the person you're arguing against.
(Also, people rarely admit losing an argument and changing their mind in the moment. But later on, in private, they might change their views because of the argument.)
The highest level is when you let them get the last word after you've made your point, because the last word just repeats themselves.
Hard agree, being down with lurk-gang for so long helped me flesh out a ton of opinions I'd otherwise be a chud about.
