Don't cry for me Argentina, I'm not terribly torn up. But I did spend an abnormal amount of time on the rice, and it shows.

Sorry cause I'm really bad about measurements and generally just play it by ear. But the cabbage is a kinda slaw I made last night with cabbage(obviously, lol) shredded carrots, 3 pith in jalapeños, quarter of an onion, close of garlic minced, nubbin of ginger minced, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, fish sauce, and a small scoop of mayo.

Lentils were a little bit of leftover onion and clove of garlic minced, boiled with the water from the canned beets.

The rice was some long grain I rinsed until the water ran clear, let dry, toasted with neutral oil, towards the end of toasting it I put a clove of pressed garlic, garlic powder, pinch of salt, and onion powder and let it get fragrant. As soon as I added the water I found an old cube of chicken bullion I figured couldn't hurt.

Everything was very good, but I'm especially proud of the rice!

I think here on Lemmy, it's okay enough to let people provide backstory to what they made. It's not really like on Reddit where people are so incentivized to make up sob stories, and it might make things more personal in a way that's not possible on larger social media.

Everyone kind of knows everyone, and if we start seeing 5 posts a day of "Dear Lemmy, my entire family has bone-itis, so I made bone broth in defiance of the horrible disease that took my sister last week. Please donate to [not a fake GoFundMe campaign] to support bone-itis research", it's always possible to ban it. Plus pretty much everything here shows up on the front page, so it's not really outcompeting the other posts for attention that much.

I broadly empathize with your point – because I also saw Reddit turning into trash with every fourth post being "AITA"-style engagement bait – with the exceptions that a) I just don't think it's worth getting vocally upset about here unless it becomes common, and b) I beg to differ: the food in the OP looks yum.
