What happened with the court order to surrender his passport?

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 38 points 1 day ago

He skipped out, without handing it over.

Apparently, he crossed the border into Argentina, where the Milei government claims he provided valid travel documents...whatever that means.

[-] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago

And just like that, Argentina became the escape route for Nazis again.

Did they look like this?

[-] grue@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

It means that a passport only matters to the extent that the countries being traveled between care about it.

[-] JesusTheCarpenter@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago

Apparently he has a dual citizenship and used his Italian passport to cross the border.

He had two passports. His Brazilian one was revoked/suspended, but he used his other to leave the country.

And then he had the Secretary of state of the USA sneak him into Florida illegally, and I'm 99.99999999999% sure you don't need a passport for that.

[-] inari@kbin.earth 12 points 1 day ago

You can travel between Mercosul countries with a valid national ID document. But the question is how he was let into the US with a canceled passport.

[-] Hanrahan@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Didn't Rubio arrange it ?

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 3 points 1 day ago

A country can let in whoever they want based on any rules they like. The passport is just an identity document used in a system of agreements between countries to normalize travel

To get into the county legally you need some kind of visa, and Trump had one provided to him

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 day ago

Special arrangements with the Trump administration, obviously.

[-] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

The Golden visa.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

He has an Italian passport too, evidently

[-] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Passport only matters if your nothing to go through customs on the way out of a country, and customs on the way in.

If they even managed to get it from him, doubtful. Even if they invalidated it, given that Trump granted him an emergency Visa, I doubt they care about whether his Passport is valid.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Customs and immigration are two different checks. The passport has nothing to do with customs.

[-] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Had a different passport
