Walk around calling yourself the rightful president of Brazil in spite of the outcome of the election and yeah, you'll get mocked.

[-] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 1 points 1 hour ago

No I'm the rightful president!

Don't be a criminal, authoritarian grifter, but be best and no issues to run from. It's always self-caused problems with these guys, and same pattern of controlling people blame minorities and enrich the wealthy more. Do better and stop electing authoritarian criminals.

It'll be amusing if he now falls victim to some random Miami gang crossfire.

Everyone start hitting up the ICE hotline

I just wonder how the voters feel about this. I couldn't imagine voting for someone only to have them immediately skip the country because they lost. What a great show of strength and power. 🙄

I do realize I may be allocating too much introspection to the majority of voters of Bolsonaro.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

I'm sure they had the talking points ready to go, right wing misinformation machine will explain it away and his radicalized voters will accept it without question.

[-] Uruanna@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

His dad also lost and fled to Florida. The people who vote for those guys are convinced that they're escaping political purge and repression and all that stuff, they pretend that the left is doing a tyranny so their side is right to go in exile for safety. Ignoring the part where he's being arrested for all the fraud they commit, they claim it's a false pretense. You know, classic projection, because that's what they want to do when they win.

It worked for Trump

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 12 points 14 hours ago

Authoritarian followers, a famously introspective crowd

[-] CountVon@sh.itjust.works 27 points 19 hours ago

self-exile

What a strange way to spell "running away like a coward".

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 17 hours ago

same thing people call themselves "expats" and not immigrants.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 63 points 23 hours ago

One day he's vowing to stay and fight the bogus charges against him...the next day he's sneaking out the back and running for the nearest private jet headed for anywhere but here.

[-] CompostMaterial@lemmy.world 21 points 22 hours ago

What happened with the court order to surrender his passport?

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

He has an Italian passport too, evidently

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 37 points 22 hours ago

He skipped out, without handing it over.

Apparently, he crossed the border into Argentina, where the Milei government claims he provided valid travel documents...whatever that means.

[-] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 8 points 14 hours ago

He had two passports. His Brazilian one was revoked/suspended, but he used his other to leave the country.

And then he had the Secretary of state of the USA sneak him into Florida illegally, and I'm 99.99999999999% sure you don't need a passport for that.

[-] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 16 points 16 hours ago

And just like that, Argentina became the escape route for Nazis again.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 18 points 19 hours ago

It means that a passport only matters to the extent that the countries being traveled between care about it.

[-] JesusTheCarpenter@feddit.uk 5 points 14 hours ago

Apparently he has a dual citizenship and used his Italian passport to cross the border.

[-] inari@kbin.earth 12 points 21 hours ago

You can travel between Mercosul countries with a valid national ID document. But the question is how he was let into the US with a canceled passport.

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 3 points 6 hours ago

A country can let in whoever they want based on any rules they like. The passport is just an identity document used in a system of agreements between countries to normalize travel

To get into the county legally you need some kind of visa, and Trump had one provided to him

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 19 points 20 hours ago

Special arrangements with the Trump administration, obviously.

[-] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 9 points 20 hours ago

The Golden visa.

[-] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 9 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Passport only matters if your nothing to go through customs on the way out of a country, and customs on the way in.

If they even managed to get it from him, doubtful. Even if they invalidated it, given that Trump granted him an emergency Visa, I doubt they care about whether his Passport is valid.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago

Customs and immigration are two different checks. The passport has nothing to do with customs.

[-] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

Had a different passport

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 73 points 1 day ago

Hours after his arrival in Florida, he posted a statement on social media declaring himself the "true president" of Brazil, before revising the wording a few minutes later to describe himself as the "leader" of the country.

A Bolsonaro ally who published an earlier version of the statement bearing Brazil's old coat of arms, abandoned in the sixties, said it had been a ChatGPT error.

No words.

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 40 points 22 hours ago

~~president~~ leader

Someone pointed out falsely claiming to be president might have legal implications when your dad's under house arrest for falsely claiming to be president?

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago

Excuse me, but you CLEARLY had TWO words.

;-)
