For those as curious as me: The suit is about the fact that the mcrib is rib shaped, yet contains no rib meat.

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 2 points 1 day ago

People are litigious over the dumbest fucking shit.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Because USA does not have loser pays laws. One of the few countries that doesn't. This leads to a lawyer tax on everything.

[-] Feidry@sh.itjust.works 93 points 3 days ago

Not to defend a giant corporation but if they do this, they better go after Banquet and all the other frozen food manufacturers that make those fake-ass ribs.

I'm beginning to wonder if the dino nuggets are actually made with dinosaurs

I wonder how many companies that produce boneless chicken wings actually include any wing meat.

I appreciate that there are those that seek to hold companies to truth in advertising and certain standards, but as an adult in her 50's I've never once thought that a McRib would contain rib meat. It's processed pork that's shaped like ribs. If anything, that's more accurate than chunks of chicken breast sold as boneless wings.

[-] Arshem@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

I think there is some rule for US grocery store products they have to label them "Wyngz" instead of "Wings". Restaurants seem to be allowed to call them whatever they want though.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

I'm not sure if I've ever seen tenders labeled boneless wings.

[-] Carl@anarchist.nexus 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Well tenders are breast meat, so I’d certainly hope nobody is mislabeling them as wings. But I guess that’s the point of the entire conversation, because fake boneless wings (or wyngz, or whatever the fuck companies call them to avoid being sued) can contain whatever is cheapest and easiest for the company.

The issue here is that apparently McDonald's is charging a premium price for the sandwich even though it is not being made with premium meat though the advertising implies that it is. Does Banquet charge more for meals with fake ribs? Honest question since I don't eat any of this stuff.

Not surprised. I had one for the first time during the last release, and it was disgusting. I honestly can’t understand why anyone likes it.

So very clearly nothing like a rib, with highly questionable pressed meat and something meant to ‘feel’ like gristle. They try to fool you, but it doesn’t work.

[-] CedricWhaley@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago

My understanding is that the original "bring back the McRib" campaign was McDonald's astroturf.

[-] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Has to have been. There’s no way actual humans were excited for that thing.

[-] myyass@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

It's and MRE from a fast food chain. It's like how my BIL would say MREs are trash and then take a can of chef boyRD to field. Like dude it's the same shit. lol

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

While MREs taste gross, they'll stay edible until the end of time. I think that's a fair trade. The McRib is just gross with no upsides.

[-] myyass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I know, I played the SteveMRE game. I tried out a 65 Vietnam era mre; for the cigarettes really lol; but I feel bad because it had a peanut butter tin inside of a tin that was in perfect condition, as in you wouldn't be able to tell it was old. Tasted great--probably the best peanut butter I've ever had. Talk about some Fallout food. The coconut crackers weren't bad either.

And I agree the McRub, last I had one already tasted like plastic. It's like the MRE pizzas, what is this?

probably isnt meat.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

mcdonalds is far from the only one that uses a similar 'rib shape'. they all do, from food service to the grocery store freezer to gas station food... many even use 'rib' in the name, too.

mcdonalds has been 'faking it' for 45 years.. how about the others? as long? even longer?

the generic 'pork' ingredient listing could very well contain "rib meat".

there's no case here.

mcdonald's only crime is the price they charge for them. the ones literally next door at the gas station here, and which are available all the time not just 'for a limited time only', cost less than one-third the price and are at least a mcrib's equal if not better.

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I could have sworn that this was already litigated previously and that McDs won. Clearly not given this situation, but it has certainly been a topic of discussion in the past.

[-] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

Funny enough, the McNuggets actually contain chicken rib meat.
