To be fair, she was playing RCT anyway. That thing runs perfectly with 128MBs on a Pentium 2 school computers.

I think that was specifically chosen because someone replied with something like "come and take it Sammy, I'll deliberately use my 96GB of DRAM for RCT just to spite you" (maybe it was even on lemmy, not sure anymore)

This implies that he wouldn't have stolen it if she was playing Star Citizen, for example, but we know he still would. He took all 4 DIMMs after all.

That might've been the joke, Altman's issue was people having a ton of RAM sitting around doing nothing 99% of the time. Which is technically true and a real example of resource allocation inefficiency, but doesn't mean we should cede all our RAM to capitalist ghouls.

In the most charitable light, his statement had merit. Same way as there is a resource allocation issue with cars - the vast majority of them sit around for the vast majority of the time.

If tech companies hadn't spent the last 30 years aggressively fucking everyone over for every penny they could get, maybe we would be more inclined to take the charitable view rather than see his statements as yet another attempt to add a fence and charge a toll.
