The nipple story makes her seem more relatable.

The problem with what happened in 2005 is that the director pressured them into revealing themselves. Although I am confused as to how this was found out in the first place

Koko could not speak.
She want taught an existing form of sign language, she was taught a never explained version of signing, which only the people who worked with her knew, and this was never documented in any scientific way for peer review, and the results weren't reproducable with other gorilla's or other researchers.
Best case scenarios, the humans involved anthropomorphized the gorilla, and thought they were communicating on a level much higher than they were actually communicating on, do to this.
Worst case, there were lying knowingly, and this was some sort of scam for money.
The affected people sued the organizion?
No that Koko liked nipples. That was established before 2005
Most information points to it all being fraudulent, so, the 'interpretor' was either dealing with a lot of repressed sexually, or they were using the guise of a talking gorilla to sexually exploit workers. Which, that's gotta be the first time that's happened, right?
Is that an issue? As long as it's only Koko seeing them?
That Wikipedia page seems to suggest that the director was using it as an excuse to peek at their nipples himself.
