I don't think you can embed it in a fancy way, but if you copy the image URL (not the page link, but right click on the image and copy the image link) then you can use markdown to embed the image. It's basically the same as a link but put ! in front, like so:
![alt text here - used for screen readers](https://pixelfed.nz/path/to/image.jpg)
Ahh right - so the result will be that the viewer will be taken to the image itself and not the Pixelfed page correct?
So long as you get the link right, it will show the image within the comment.
e.g. here's a recently posted image I just found:
https://pixelfed.nz/p/pablo/620911224907388141 and here's what I get if I copy the image location: https://pixelfed.nz/storage/m/_v2/513250381254845674/f1538e3aa-7b3151/4bKLqhHyp7hs/yXLaNVwdRYVFUFRL4Xrzm7WARXu9hTTwJKc8jA8J.jpg
If I use markdown like so:
![photo of fountain at night](https://pixelfed.nz/storage/m/_v2/513250381254845674/f1538e3aa-7b3151/4bKLqhHyp7hs/yXLaNVwdRYVFUFRL4Xrzm7WARXu9hTTwJKc8jA8J.jpg)
Then I get:
Oh right- Cool!.
Thank you for explaining the different outcomes
