I think connect has this feature, though it's just client-side blocking. It still fetches the posts, it just doesn't display them.
The only other way is to host your own instance and defederate, though that blocks users as well as communities.
There's no user-level setting to block all communities on an instance, though there is a GitHub issue and it's a frequently requested feature.
