Also the frontier "labs" are rapidly running out of money and having to raise more and more insane investment rounds. This is a great way to save face and back away from burning $$$$ on training runs that push the frontier of can a model rearrange some arbitrary coloured squares by 10% next they just need to solve the problem of how to make their customers pay cost+ on inference when they've been giving it away at steep discounts for nearly 4 years... Easy!

Omg ~~we are haemorrhaging money~~ AI is so scawwie powerful intelligent and ~~nobody will lend us any more~~ becoming self aware. We need to slow down the frontier to ~~do regulatory capture and juice our numbers for ipo~~ protect civilization

It sounds like many of these math proofs that AI is managing are simply scooped from users' chat histories anyway!

If you work there and you genuinely believe you will destroy civilization you're either full of shit or experiencing AI psychosis. This tech is simply not that good. go outside and touch some fricking grass.

I am personally deeply offended that an independent vegan restaurant in my town recently banned meat eaters from bringing in their burgers from next door and passively aggressively eating them in the restaurant whilst making eye contact with the other customers. Whilst I appreciate that there are a huge number of burger joints that cater to meat eaters, I am troubled by the idea that a young fledgling meat eater who accidentally stumbled into the vegan restaurant with a double quarter pounder and bacon meal under his arm could be berated and asked to leave. That might upset him and put him off eating burgers which would be a terrible outcome. I don't think I'm being unreasonable here. I'm no carnivore. I don't work for the beef industry. In fact, I am an omnivore and I have a friend who sometimes eats salads. I'm just saying that if little Timmy wants to enjoy a burger in the middle of a private space owned by people that hate burgers, that should be his god-given right.

AI shills: buh-buh-buh LLMs aren't stochastic parrots. They are so smart!

a tweet from "rish": gave my agents a standup channel so theyd coordinate now they hold a daily standup this morning one apologized for being away all weekend Slack screenshot showing three agent profiles software agent with a blue S icon designer agent with a pink D icon and ops agent with an orange O icon. Software agent says Yesterday shipped 3 PRs Today 4 more Blocked on nothing. Designer agent says redesigned the logo again. Ops agent says apologies was away all weekend catching up now. rish with a purple R icon replies youre an agent you dont have weekends. ops agent replies noted writing to memory

Of course the agent in question didn't actually take the weekend off it just learned from reinforcement learning across many millions of stolen slack chats that this is something people are likely to say in stand ups and repeated it...

I thought this was worthy of it's own post rather than a sneery comment. Astral make UV which at this point is a load bearing part of the python software ecosystem. This could have a huge knock on effect on the open source community.

I for one can't wait for non-deterministic package management

"You're absolutely right, I did install the wrong package and infect your system with malware. I will try much harder next time"

IBM stocks take a tumble after anthropic release a COBOL skill - the rational market strikes again.

I wrote up my take here but TL;DR - a few markdown files telling Claude it's an expert at COBOL development aren't going to unpick decades of risk averse behaviour from bank and government cios. Similar to the SaaSpocalypse this is pure nonsense. Investors don't tend to let reality dissuade them though.
