Burn it down and salt the earth then. What's the point of whinging about it?

Every single Anthropic and OpenAI employee retweeting or otherwise agreeing with Coxon is full of shit. "Hi, I work at [insert AI lab name here], and Jacob is right. I'm scared. There's a 10% chance humanity ends in the next 10 years. I am continuing to work on this technology that might end humanity in 10 years. Ask me anything."

This is an incredible read, i haven't finished it yet but I can't believe these are all new arguments to these people.

e: I got through some of the comments, no, they've heard the arguments but their counter arguments are being filtered through a willfully incorrect version of reality

This is an incredible read

It really is. Regards to BioMan for finding it: https://awful.systems/post/9389883/12420011

They're so full of themselves they either don't care or believe they are the only ones responsible enough to make the AI

Seriously, if you genuinely believe you will destroy civilisation, STOP WORKING THERE you are only making it worse

If you work there and you genuinely believe you will destroy civilization you're either full of shit or experiencing AI psychosis. This tech is simply not that good. go outside and touch some fricking grass.

YT suggested a Dwarkesh interview with Ajeya Cotra next to your video. Cotra is A UC Berkeley grad who works at OpenPhil and promotes and is promoted by Kelsey Piper.

She's also Paul Chistiano's spouse.

Never heard of him and can't find him in the archives of SneerClub or TechTakes just https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Christiano

He was once Dario Amodei's roommate. He also cofounded the Alignment Research Center (funded in part by a sizable FTX donation), which spun off METR, the organization Cotra now works at.

"10% chance the moon will kill humanity in the next 10 years.", says NASA space exploration lead.

Swedish media reports essentially the same, which shows the importance of targetting outlets like WSJ or NYT - those media orgs might not have enormous reach but they have credibility. It's usually a safe bet to repeat stuff they have repeated.

I don't know if there is any professional journalist in Sweden who has sat down and researched these networks. It's not surprising if not, they're not that big a deal here (in fact, "AI" as an election issue is basically non-existent, the election is on Sunday)

[-] lurker@awful.systems 8 points 3 days ago

Seriously, from no social media presence to CNN interview in under like a day? Wild

[-] lurker@awful.systems 6 points 3 days ago

Also, Altman and Amodei should be put in jail. Banning chatbots probably wouldn’t hurt either

Yeah, they want to prevent independent AI use such as local models so you have to buy their product.

Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.
