NEW YORK (AP) — Bank accounts held by President Donald Trump were closed by Capital One in 2021 after it flagged financial activity that had characteristics of money laundering, the bank disclosed in a court filing over the weekend.

The court filing is tied to a lawsuit filed against Capital One by one of Trump's financial holding companies shortly after he was sworn into office a second time. Trump alleges that Capital One illegally closed his accounts for political reasons, following the Jan. 6 attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

"The closures were the result of months of analysis and a careful review by Capital One's AML team in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidance," the bank said in the court filing. The term "AML" is an abbreviation for anti-money laundering.

Trump has sued Capital One, as well as JPMorgan Chase, for allegedly debanking him after he left office in 2021. Debanking occurs when banks shut down customer accounts because they believe they pose financial, legal or reputational risks to the banks.

Yea, this is the reason I held my tongue when the company CEO who laid me off last year (Who I worked directly under) posted something about investing in the people who further their goals. Because I had a bunch of very snarky I could have clapped back with, but I decided to not burn the bridge

That's actually somewhat plausible, I saw a vid earlier today from some one talking about how their work coding AI agent noticed that their NPM was set to only update package dependencies 7 days after release because ya know best security practices and all that

It "helpfully" set it to 0 because they would miss top features otherwise LMAO

On ND in my area there were right-wing nutjobs pissed about a proposition on the ballot that would raise taxes...only on people making 400k a year....for a school lunch for all kids program...... because they saw some well off students here and there. Similarly to @dg2445@sh.itjust.works I use their digital notebook. A Boox Note Air (1st gen) and it's been really solid. They use android heavily so I'm not bound to their app store which I like.
