Agree with this. Even different brands of the same type of beer can taste so different that one is like an angel pissing on your tongue and the other one is just plain piss

I'm all for world wide wealth caps. Of any one has a measured wealth of say 5 million or more, 100% of their income goes to taxes.

This way we can keep everything the same, we just cut off the excesses by putting some sane rules at the base of the system

Nobody can have a net worth of over 5M, meaning that nobody can become crazy powerful. Governments get huge influx of resources, which can we used for universal healthcare, education, etc. all while keeping the world pretty much the same

Isn't that the kind of treasonous action that typically still can get you the chair / rope / bullet?

Lately I've been seeing a huge amount of new Lemmy subs in different languages, or subs specifically about certain regions, countries, etc.

I very much applaud this growth, and think it's awesome that so many more people can enjoy posts in their own languages.

Having said that, 50% of the posts I see now are in languages that I don't remotely speak, are specifically and only for countries on the other side of the world for me, or are about subjects I really am not interested in ) mainly anime.. so much anime...

I keep blocking these subs when I see them but they show up faster than I can plug them, and my blocklist ia getting larger and larger and honestly bits becoming a nuisance

Is there a way to at least whitelist languages? I speak a good amount of languages but giving me twenty posts in twenty different languages is just... Not working

Also, if we could perhaps tag subs with labels like "news" and "anime" I could then whitelist or blacklist those tags that I like

Is there anything like that available on Lemmy?

Regular weed user here.

If I'd have to describe my average weed experience in a few words, it would be fun, warm, soft, calm, soft fuzzy blanket

If I'd have to describe my few psychedelic experiences similarly (mushrooms only), it would be cold, hard, sharp, alone and from one horror trip (I was given way too much and after hours of nothing, smoked a little weed which I regretted 10 seconds later) chaos, mayhem, extreme loneliness from being the only person alive in the universe

Wife has similar experiences and after our last fucked up trip vowed to never again try it.

Are these experiences typical? I see so many positive experiences but I hated the cold and lonely feeling I had with it every time. How could I have a pleasant trip with shrooms, or say, lsd even?

You just gotta love the "do not hallucinate" part of that prompt, which is like taking a person tripping balls on LSD, and telling them "now hear this, I want you to only tell me facts, and I do not want you to hallucinate!"

Good luck with THAT.

If google requires me to permit other companies to leech all my personal data to be able to use anything on the Internet at all, I say we label Google, Microsoft, Apple as criminal organizations

I'm sorry, bit there have to be limits.

I. DO. NOT. WANT. TO. USE. ANYTHING. GOOGLE.

OR APPLE. OR MICROSOFT.

Hi there,

I'm a beginner photography enthusiast who loves playing with zoom

I've been looking for a camera to start with and I found the Nikon P1100. 125x zoom, and about as far as it goes with a camera with built in zoom lens.

So with that in mind, is this a good camera? What else should I keep in mind? I know it's a little heavy because it's bulky and that's fine. I'll probably go for a number of accessories like a tripod, extra batteries and storage and whatnot, anything I might need to start with that you normally don't directly think of?

Thanks for a great community!

Imagine if humanity would spend all this energy and effort into things that would actually benefit humanity world wide. Medicine and medical personnel, food research and production, education, housing, care for the elderly....

Oh man, this world could be so nice...

Well from the conservative perspective, it does

They'd no longer have the "right" to discriminate at random

They'd no longer have the "right" to force their religion down everyone's throat

They'd no longer have a the "right" to behave like a complete dick

I mean, they stand to lose a lot, y'know

So I regularly see issues in Firefox where pages from certain websites (Hello amazon.ca!) shoot to 100% CPU utilization and just never stop.

I'm wondering, is there a plugin that could periodically check the FF process list and identify tabs that are misbehaving like this (or in other ways, extreme memory consumption, perhaps?) and perform configurable actions like "Reload page (GET only of course) on tab" or "Kill tab" ?

It would be helpful because I see this issue on a daily basis, regularly to the point where these tabs are causing problems.

I already have "Auto tab discard" that discards unused tabs, but I'd like this as an extra feature, or a separate plugin.

Anyone who knows what could be useful?

On server 10.11.3, using latest client version on Google TV

So when I start watching something, I may have a set of languages, say English, Russian, Japanese. I check the language selected, it -correctly- says English. Great! Press play, and I hear Russian.

I then go and select any different language, select English again, and now I do hear English

Does anyone else have this bug and is the a known fix?

As the title says: saving pictures in Lemmy connect doesn't work and make the app completely freeze, then crash

How to replicate? Open up an image, any image, and then try saving it. No other app with similar features (saving an image, say, WhatsApp) has this issue.

As the title says.

Saving pictures and videos worked since a long time but since about a month or two, it would freeze up connect and make it crash.

Then a next version fixed it, then a subsequent version broke it again and it has been broken ever since, even after multiple new versions

Any idea when this might be fixed?

Edit: this is on Android v1.0.275 but has been broken in many other versions before that for at least like 2 months now

To Gabriel Horcasitas, the man who shot me, it is a shame we encountered each other that day in those circumstances,” the AI avatar of Christopher Pelkey said. “In another life we probably could have been friends. I believe in forgiveness and a God who forgives. I still do.”

I find this nauseatingly disgusting and a disgrace that this was shown in a court of all places.

No, this man does not believe in forgiveness or a God because he's dead. He never said this, somebody wrote this script and a computer just made a video off it with his likeness.

Fuck everything about this, this should be prohibited

Saving images will make the app

Block community or instance no longer working

Subscribe will constantly give "unsubscribed from..."

249 would break image saving with some backtrace about the error, the new update I kust received make the entire app freeze and then it just crashes to Android

So I've been trying to use Jellyfin for a long, LONG time now, and I've never really been able to use it remotely reliable.

I can go on for a long time about all the problems I've faced, lets just say that after years I can still not use it to watch something with the family because there is always something not working, I could start about hardware decoding having worked for a while and then suddenly without explanation no longer working, but lets start with subtitles...

I just want to have subtitles actually load without having to sacrifice a goat to whatever god is out there to have subtitles work. What is the problem that subtitles just 99% of the time don't work?

Worse, sometimes they work while watching a show, and a jellyfin update comes by and, you guessed it, subtitles no longer work for that show, even though they work for some other movies, sometimes...

I am a software engineer, I do loads of devops, I can find my way around, but jellyfin is just... I dunno what to do anymore. Is there a reliable alternative, perhaps, that actually just works?

I've long given up on the dream that I could have something similar to netflix for all my movies and shows that aren't on netflix, where I can scrub with images, for example, I just want to be able to watch a show with the family with subtitles without fiddling for 30 minutes to try and get it to work.

Current setup is google-tv with 0.17.9 client, and the latest docker server. Shows seem to have okay subtitles on web client, but on google-tv, every time I select a subtitle, I get a "subtitles loading" message, and then 10-20 seconds later a "failed to load subtitles" message.

Anyone?

This is super annoying, as I try to pinch gesture zoom in on an image, and I'll go out of the media back to the list again instead.

I'd like to click to already zoom in somewhat, making punch zoom even easier

If I want to get out, I'll press the back button on my phone, or the back button of connect
