Sony went on to say that it takes a “firm stance” against such behavior, which includes examples like “persistent and repeated, or prolonged, demands, excessive or unreasonable demands for compensation or apologies, and abusive language, threats, slander, and other similar behaviors.”

Other examples included “forcing someone to prostrate themselves” and “visiting our offices or related facilities without permission.” If any such behavior is confirmed, Sony says it may “restrict or suspend customer service” to protect its employees — and, if necessary, contact “police, lawyers, etc.” to take legal action or begin criminal proceedings against them.

Anything but walking back the physical disc decision

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago

Anything but doing the right thing because money

[-] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Seems like at this point bringing back physical discs would be the money making decision

[-] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 day ago

At least we own our Steam games, wait a minute...

[-] Aeder@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I'm so glad I never gave any serious amount of money to Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

[-] greyscale@lemmy.grey.ooo 305 points 2 days ago

Can people just stop buying their fucking product now?

[-] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 80 points 2 days ago

No. Console gamers can't do that.

[-] greyscale@lemmy.grey.ooo 10 points 1 day ago

Skill issue.

They can't complain about being a corporations bitch if they don't want to put in the legwork.

If you own a PS5, depending on your firmware you may be able to exploit it, enjoy your favorite titles, all while giving Sony the middle finger.

That leaves only one available option for protest. I don't think they want to funnel everyone into moving away from PlayStation entirely. Or maybe they do, maybe xbox infiltrated and is taking them down from the inside, wait, where's my popcorn...

[-] myyass@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Moving away from Sony as much as possible. I may or may not use questionable websites to watch anime and movies. and I sold all my Sony stuff except a PS3 and Headphones, which will also be sold.

[-] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

I dunno, maybe keep anything you can pirate on, right? Because that would hit them harder?

We made a bad decision and people got upset.

The problem according to Sony: the people.

Get bent Sony, you put your front line workers through this bullshit, you don't get to cry foul. How fucking stupid.

[-] fulg@lemmy.world 178 points 2 days ago

My initial read of the headline was that Sony would now make it a policy to harass its customers that do not agree with the new plans…

[-] BambiDiego@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago

Well, yes, but actually yes.

[-] andallthat@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

Same! I got to the third paragraph of the article before understanding they were not planning to harass their customers (or at least not in new ways...)

[-] vinnymac@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Isn’t that what they announced when deciding future titles won’t be on discs? I thought that was them plainly telling us, “we will be harassing the consumers of our products going forward”.

This is just the follow up where they’re saying “we won’t let you harass us back, because we are a big scary powerful corporation, and you are just a weak small individual.”

Ah, yes. Desperately falling back on making a tone argument of all things is a sure fire indicator that somebody doesn't have a single leg left to stand on. Sony's decades-long pattern of behavior does not put them in a position to be able to enjoy that luxury.

In other words: Get the fuck outta here with that.

[-] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 22 points 1 day ago

IDK, some of those demands are absolutely reasonable. Nobody should be making threats or visiting their facilities.

Just stop buying products connected to Sony. I did when they did the helldivers account thing back in the day. That's why I never played helldivers, actually.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

Protesting outside facilities should be allowed. Though honestly pointless, just give them what they want and leave their ecosystem

Has Sony just dared it's entire customer base to take part in a forced boycott?

The equivalent of somebody getting themselves barred from a pub/bookies/casino because they know that they can't do it on their own.

[-] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

They say Microsoft and Xbox start to take a tumble and said to themselves "How badly can we fuck ourselves too?"

Like 95% of this I agree with. Don’t harass support people who have no decision making on this and are just trying to make a living.

But

unreasonable demands for compensation or apologies

Fucking really? Asking for refunds is bad now?

[-] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 37 points 1 day ago

Nothing more offensive to a capitalist than trying to get your money back

[-] criss_cross@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Or apologizing. Can’t have that anymore either.

ITT: People who don't understand how call centers work.

It is very rare for companies the size of Sony to maintain their own call centers for frontline customer support. They contract with a call center to run a campaign for them.

For these call centers, the huge campaigns are their life blood, and they won't do anything to upset the client. Your complaints are very likely not being passed on.

Furthermore, the candidate pool for call centers is anyone desperate enough to work in a call center. The amount of homeless agents is high enough that scabies and bed bugs are a common problem on-shore.

So, by calling and being abusive to a CS agent, there's a decent chance you're abusing a homeless person for absolutely no benefit.

The only reason Sony cares is because turnover from abuse and tied up agents costs money.

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"You fools! You're not even talking to us, you're talking to a homeless person! We will never hear what you have to say!"

[-] LazyOldPervert@lemmus.org 14 points 1 day ago

Fuck Sony and their anti-consumer bullshit

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org 28 points 2 days ago

That's just good policy. Yelling at support personal or making them unsafe should not be celebrated. What is wrong with you?

[-] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 41 points 1 day ago

Sure, yelling at them is bad.

But this is way more than that

You can't ask for anything, or they could arbitrarily decide you broke the agreement. You can't protest in any way, or they decide you broke the agreement.

Merely asking for what you've paid for to be returned to you is grounds for banning your profile now.

I always thought this stance to be interesting, because it reminds me of soldiers in a conflict. The arguments are that the enemy rank and file are just doing their jobs, they have a family, the actual evil bigwig is out of reach, etc.

But also, are you just going to do nothing and let them steamroll you? They're choosing to continue to work at that business, and are the only "frontline" that you can interact with. The fact that the business made a policy specifically addressing this common complaint, means it actually reached the ears of someone in power.

I'm not encouraging violence or anything of course. But, by design, there's nobody else to voice your displeasure to. The only other option is to quietly accept their changes and be ignored.

If they didn't want angry people calling, maybe they shouldn't make terrible decisions?

My decade+ long boycott of Sony's garbage is looking more and more prescient every day.

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I am on a boycott since the Sony Rootkit Scandal.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

I've been out since they forced me to either remove dual boot from my p3 or stop playing games on it.

I had TV's Receivers, Speakers, cameras. They can go F themselves.
