I saw an HP pavilion 17-f048nb at a street market and cannot find the specs for this. I simply want to know if the CPU is AMD, and if so which AMD. It’s such a shitshow on HP’s website. Considering the same HP model can sometimes have either intel or AMD, do I have any way to find out?

Sometimes you can get /some/ details based on the serial number at https://partsurfer.hp.com/ but not the CPU.

A slightly different model (17-f048ca) reportedly has an amd chip. But what do the last two letters mean? Is that a country code for where it is deployed?

I mean, whenever the item says $69.99 on the tag for instance (I know for a fact that is not the final price) as ST exists dependent on state having their own percentages added on top. Also, why do visitors have to pay ST on both goods and services despite them not living in the US? Do tourists get reimbursed for that or not?

Assuming it’s one of those Green, Libertarian, Socialist campaigns where it’s just someone running for President and no real party presence down ballot.

Let’s say they get enough votes to win. How would a third party candidate govern with a split congress made up of their party opposition? Do they cave into one side? Fight them for four years?

If a nation reaches the point where millions of its citizens no longer trust the media, elections, courts, universities, police, science, or even each other, is it still one country or just 330 million people sharing the same borders?

We have white supremacy vs multi-racial coalitions that can’t even agree on LGBT issues.

How are we as a society supposed to create standards to follow like in the past, when so many issues sharply divide us? One side has to win these elections, and one side is gonna go for it and implement their agenda that MILLIONS disagree with. Is that still a democracy? If Americans no longer believe the system is legitimate unless their side wins, has democracy already begun to fail?

I don’t live in Maine, so I have no say in that senate election. But I know it must be really hard for left of center Maine voters right now. But what’s even harder to deal with it, was the consistent victim blaming I’ve seen from the left for the last 6 months or so.

If this was 2015-2022. We wouldn’t have tolerated this type of behavior on the left. But I guess that was the “woke” era, and now we have to be just as sociopathic and dirtbag as MAGA. So many left leaning influencers have lost credibility with their attacks on his accusers. Saying that one of them is a Republican, dosent really hurt her argument because Platner dated her KNOWING she was a Republican.

Before these latest developments. I’ve said I’d still vote for Platner despite his scandals. Even the one about black people tipping which pissed me off. We went through an entire MeToo Movement, and preached to believe victims, but here we are. I guess Trump 2.0 really has done damage to social awareness in politics.

TLDR: How did we allow victim blaming like this to happen on the left?

This might sound silly but I'm trying to find the best route. This spring I had to drive from Tucson to Northeast Missouri and we ended up driving through Las Cruces all the way up 54 to Kansas. And let me tell you that is a desolate stretch of road. I've looked at the map several times but can someone tell me if there's a better way to travel other than through New Mexico? I know I can go down through Texas but that adds like 2 hrs onto the trip

Update: I had zero issues getting through customs, no extra searches nothing. I will also tell people to download the MPC app because I waltzed past a huge line when I got to customs in Atlanta.

I myself am from the USA but I really can't think of anything. I do know of some right-wingers from my old high school who liked leftist stuff but I can't think of what they are off the top of my head. Maybe Star Trek, does that count?

Putting it into perspective: the Swiss Franc is backed by mutual trust which is something money can't buy (investors have confidence on economic stability during times of crisis) since it's not pegged to another currency or gold despite them having gold reserves. They even have a 1000 CHF bill ($1,269) so it's a strong currency in that sense, they barely circulate it outside.

Do YOU consider the US Dollar a safe haven currency? If it were: it would've received the same status as the Swiss Franc. The reason why CHF is strong is due their trust & confidence alongside a stable economical & political system, put it in comparison: how many Americans have confidence in their own currency? Does the USA have a "truly" stable political system?

The thing is: Switzerland is neutral, meaning they have no incentive whatsoever on becoming belligerents in foreign wars (something the USA can't stay away from since they spend a LOT of money on the military). Their national debt is lower than it is in USA (140m CHF / ~$179m) while in comparison: America's debt has ballooned to around $38,200,000,000,000 if I recall.

It's also tied to their monetary policy (which is highly trusted) hence why they managed to keep inflation relatively low but inflation in America is a joke (no need to say how bad it is). Their interest rate is 0% (can't be said for US Federal Reserve: 3.75%) as Switzerland's goal is to ensure price stability long term while the USA is more on promoting maximum employment.

I've encountered this sort of point before, you'll likely find many examples right on Lemmy. Does the US "not have culture"? Does it have lots of different cultures? Has it just been so good at spreading culture that everything feels American?

It's generally agreed-upon to be unhealthy, but how to move away from it is a much harder question. Capitalism, food deserts, willpower, etc etc all get talked about. But regardless of whether or not it's a good thing, how SAD is your diet?

First, yes, I realize "European" covers a wide array of peoples and cultures. However, the same applies to Americans, and the folks across the pond don't seem wiling to extend us the courtesy of acknowledging that.

So that's my response to the post question: They treat us like a mono-culture / Planet of Hats and judge and jury us all based on the loudest and most boorish of us. Newsflash: we're not a mono-culture and are just as diverse as you.

And since there's lots of potshot posts going around just to shit on Americans for the crime of existing, I feel turnabout's fair play.

I was reading Michael Caine autobiography, "The elephant to Hollywood". At a certain point he's in living in LA, and his wife becomes suddenly ill. She had a burst appendix, one of these "you have surgery on a couple hours or you die" situations. The thing is once they get to the hospital and she's properly diagnosed, Caine is asked $5000 beforehand for her operation, and he's literally told; "No money, no operation". Eventually he realizes that he belongs to the actors Gild, so the operation is covered, and everything was alright. But I wondered, does (did) the US health system really work like this? Will a perfectly curable person be left to die just because a forward payment can't be done? For context, this happened in LA probably in the 60s or 70s.
