President Donald Trump’s Republican midterm convention in Dallas featured a bizarre video that claimed he was chosen by God for a special purpose.

The video, which was also used in 2024, is a modified version of Paul Harvey’s 1978 “So God Made a Farmer” speech, but with a twist: In this one, God makes Trump.

“And on June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’” the narrator says. “So God gave us Trump.”

Critics were stunned by the video’s blatant idolatry, especially on a stage where speaker after speaker had attacked Democrats about faith while posturing as defenders of Christianity.

Elsewhere, at the congressional medal of honor place he visited recently, he said he wanted one more than anything. He doesn't understand why he, the president, can't give himself the Congressional medal of honor.

Despite never serving in the military. And of course, the fact that since he's not congress he can't himself make an act of congress. Can't make this shit up, it wouldn't be quite so stupid if we did. Or as arrogant as the case is to a large degree.

How much you want to bet that Congress awards it to him anyway since Republicans control all of Congress? That would be a royal "f*ck you" to active, former, and deceased service members everywhere. Could not imagine a more clear basis for outrage from Americans everywhere than that.

Could not imagine a more clear basis for outrage from Americans everywhere than that.

Remember when he tore down part of the white house for essentially no reason? That was a way bigger insult to the nation

Who cares if he steals a little piece of metal? He does that all the time, he loves stealing tokens and trophies. No one with half a brain would ever be confused and believe that he somehow earned the FIFA trophy and congressional medal of Honor, and a purple heart and whatever else he wants to stick on a shelf

It's embarrassing, for both him and the county, but it's entirely meaningless. It's just a piece of metal if you don't earn it

[-] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 8 points 1 month ago

No one with half a brain

I think I see where the problem lies.

A Soldier Will Fight Long and Hard for a Bit of Colored Ribbon - potentially Napoleon, most likely in French.

[-] kboos1@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

The mental gymnastics really wouldn't be that hard to do.

Commander and Chief of the military>saved us from drugs coming from South America>won the war in Iran 3 times in a year>profit

[-] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 month ago

It's actually 'Commander in Chief', as in 'Chief among the Commanders'.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 9 points 1 month ago

They are talking about renaming a ship too, maybe an aircraft carrier even, named after this black cook in pearl harbour that did all this heroism stuff, for the president too.

Will congress be that craven and dishonorable? Absolutely I would agree, in a lame duck session, not before midterms.

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

I hope when they rename it Iran blows the fuck out of it and scraps it for memorial coins.

Christian Nationalism doesn't have anything to do with Christ; rather, it's a tribal identity you can opt into, if you can shut down your capacity for critical thought.

As the article notes, the video is a repeat from two years ago. There's really no reason to be shocked by this display now.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 8 points 1 month ago

I mean, if you saw the AI slop he's posted where he is jesus healing the sick, and that's hardly the only one I guess this prick is posting sometimes a slop or meme a minute on his late night sessions, he must have a whole media team on it.

By all rights, these religious people should reject him for their faith, and in not doing so give lie to their stated beliefs.

Obviously they think that it's ok because he's doing stuff they think Jesus wants, like bringing about turmoil in the middle east to usher in the rapture where the earth will be drowned in lakes of blood and fire, (finally right?,) after the faithful get brought to heaven.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

the AI slop he’s posted where he is jesus healing the sick

He was about to smother the guy so it'd be easier to molest his kids.

bringing about turmoil in the middle east to usher in the rapture

They're so arrogant that they tink they can force God's hand.

There’s a reason they are losing their fucking minds trying to hide Talarico from Christian Republicans, he makes the hypocrisy of MAGA painfully obvious and they can’t handle it.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I'd so love to see someone like Carr tracked down by ICE (under the Democrats), tackled, and bundled off to some detention facility for multiple weeks while he awaits some liberal court. Make sure to video as much of it as possible. I want to see that smug little face of his when it dawns on him what is happening.

The Democrats should find a way to strip the citizenship of and deport Republicans that were conspiring with donnie to end democracy.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

That shit should not breach containment. I want those shit bird republicans kept here. I want them prosecuted to the full extent of the law here. I want to see them thrown into the shithole private prison system they built. I want to hear the judge give them life sentences without parole. And then I want to never hear a fucking word from them again until they die.

[-] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

He actually fits the definition of the antichrist more. I guess the other ones claiming he is a literal gift from god could be the false prophets.

[-] rethnor@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

He could be the antichrist, or at least the closest thing I will see in my lifetime.

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago

Republican Party is fueled by blasphemy.

[-] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

The leader of a personality cult is doing cultish things? I'm shocked, shocked!

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's not blasphemy if you read the right parts of the Bible. Because then it is suddenly self-explanatory. Something something a great leader something through lies and deception something his followers wear his sign on their forehead etc...

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

We're one step closer to The Boys being prophecy instead of satire.

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Just waiting on that V.

[-] LostCarcosan@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

If only it followed a little closer to The Boys and ended the same way

[-] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago

I find it hard to believe anyone is surprised by anything Trump does at this point and these clickbait titles are explicitly used to provoke shock.

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

We should not be surprised but we should be continually appalled. Do not normalize it.

[-] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

That isn't realistic though. We settle into the new normal whether we want to or not. That's just how it works. We need something else to change that normal, other than outrage and emotion which will adapt.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

How about those Epstein files?

[-] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

The ones nobody has done anything with still and its normal now that nothing happens with them? Those ones?

[-] reddig33@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

The blasphemy isn’t new. See also the golden idol of Trump at a previous convention. And Trump waving a bible around upside down that he’s never read.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago
[-] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 9 points 1 month ago

This is what REAL Christians do! Unlike those FAKE Christian Democrats who go to Church and Read the Bible!

-Republicans LITERALLY!

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

Critics stunned, devotees enthralled.

[-] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

And his followers will think he is a literal apostle of their zombie god. Sad.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

i think their god is more of a bread golem than a zombie

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

If they only actually knew their scriptures. Hint: Trump is perfectly described in Revelations 13.

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

Criticisms of Trump do not matter to Trump's base.

Among all the things to be outraged about this doesn't register. But I'm a godless heathen.

[-] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Americans invented the tent revival and the televangelist, and this is the ultimate product of that comfort with blasphemy it fostered. There's nothing Christian about a lot of American Christians. It's Kayfabe, regardless of whether they believe it or not.

[-] wuffah@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Remember to vote for God everyone! God needs your votes! And your money! God loves your money so, so much.

If you don’t give me votes and money, you’ll go to hell!

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

It's ok... if I go to hell I can just get well again at St. God's Memorial Hospital.

[-] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Critics

It’s not for you. Of course you’re “stunned.” The base eats it up.

[-] milkisklim@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I'm staring to think this guy may not have our best interests at heart.

[-] deacon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

It’s no good critics being stunned. They are perpetually stultified by him.

We need his supporters to be stunned.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Repeatedly, with tasers, then revived and stunned some more.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago
