Yeah. I got nothing else to do this Winter. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Not my 20-year-old car.

Without regulation, this will continue, and get worse. Remember to vote in every election you can, both local, and national.

If I were anything like a good writer, I'd write a screenplay for this.

This is Microsoft BOB

Here's a good demo video without any talking or people mugging for the camera, just the interface: https://youtu.be/VrsIsf8PQJY

Microsoft Bob was a Microsoft software product intended to provide a more user-friendly interface for the Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems, supplanting the Windows Program Manager. The program was released on March 10, 1995, and discontinued in early 1996.

Oh, I know this one! They hold the camera with their chin against their neck. It's awkward, but that lets them have both balls in view.

Last year I got a mix of mostly chocolates, and some other candies I considered filler. When I let the kids choose I noticed they didn't choose the chocolate, but I don't remember what they chose.

I probably gained three pounds.

Please, what should I buy that the kids will like?

Is it really necessary to send humans to those places just to get the knock-on benefits? Couldn't we do those things directly, without going there?

It seems to me that, today, those who have the money to spend on these endeavors would only do so if there were perceived short-term benefits to themselves. That means they plan to exploit the resources, or increase their own power somehow.

I know the good engineers that make this happen are doing it for the challenge and in the pursuit of knowledge, and I know that's why we poors support it, but that doesn't "pay the bills." What is the motivation behind the money? Why are they really doing this?

Ah, I guess not. It's a self-driving Rolls Royce with no steering wheel and only one bench seat. You just tell the car where you want to go and it takes you there in your ivory tower cocoon.

The joke is that self-driving cars haven't worked out they way the promised, illustrated by the collection of videos of Waymo cars getting trapped by stupid problems. I imagined this $50 million dollar car trapped in a flood, or just as likely running over a child.

They're still promising it, but it jumped from $20 million to $50 million.

Meanwhile in the real world:

He said AI is helping workers produce more output, but the quality of it is so bad that their colleagues have to spend more time fixing it

Everyone predicted this. Why the fuck didn't the billionaires? What is their major malfunction?

"She kept saying, like, 'You could see how the shirt is offensive.' I was like, 'I can't see how the shirt is offensive,'" Saadeh said. "She was like, 'It's 2026.' I was like, 'I know what year it is.'"

He added, " 'Do you think kids shouldn't be bombed, or kids should be bombed? Like, what are you offended by?'"

Based.

I'd vote for her. I'd also vote for Bernie again, if he ran again. I don't care about his age, all that would matter is he got into office, and established a cabinet, and had a good Vice President to take over.

Found on Reddit:

I'm a dentist and I can tell you exactly what he likely meant. Slovenia of course was never a part of the USSR but the USSR had largely friendly ties with Yugoslavia, which Slovenia was a part of. And part of that was knowledge exchange in Healthcare between the Soviets and Yugoslavia/Slovenia.

The USSR developed a number of... Interesting... dental techniques independently of the west. To be clear, these techniques DO work, but they are distinctive and a little bizarre to us westerners. So your dentist likely looked in your mouth, saw some of those techniques -- which are occasionally done in the US as well, largely from ex-Soviet/ex-communist dentists -- and made the connection. As for why he asked Slovenia specifically? A lot of Slovenian dentists migrated to the US and brought their know-how over.
