I may or may not have splurged on a 128GB AMD Ryzen AI Max 395 (strix halo) system for 'AI stuff' (told you I was a noob).

I've been running Ubuntu on it with the AMD drivers (think its ROCm?), ollama and seems to be working fine.

An LLM told me to change the RAM/VRAM ratio to 50:50 (so 64GB for the CPU, 64GB for the GPU). I dunno if that was correct, seems like a waste tbh. Feels like I could give the GPU more resources and run bigger models.

I've read about Lemonade being better than Ollama on strix halo? Also, I realised that I might not be using the NPU as extra work is required to get that up and running.

I'm looking for advice from users on the same hardware. What OS are you using? How do you have the RAM/VRAM ratio configured? What's your stack? That sorta thing.

PS - If my wife asks, the machine only cost like £250 and is a second-hand floor model.

Im in the market for a NAS solution. By NAS I don't mean running Jellyfin and some homepage thing for vibes, I mean your old-style "it just provides network attached storage".

I love the Jonsbo cases but I don't want to drop as much coin as building out a NAS based on one of them entails. I'm looking for an older office/home/gaming PC or case that has room for atleatst 4 3.5" HDD’s. Something around ten years old with maybe an i5 7th+ gen CPU. I don't need hardware RAID as I prefer ZFS anyway.

Ideas?

In the past week I've been absolutely roasted for criticising two different countries. Normally I'd be okay with that, I can handle a mild toasting and after all debate is a good thing.

On both occasions though I was flamed for mentioning human rights issues that are established facts and have been known for many, many years. I was critical of the actions/laws of their governments and not the people, their race, religion, general political ideology or nationality.

On both occasions I was bombarded by long posts that parroted propaganda, and in the case of one country I was told (on multiple occasions) that I was ignorant, racist and even fascist for mentioning the issues I did. I'm not complaining about how I was treated, but as a reminder, I was discussing internationally-recognised human rights concerns that can be verified and based in fact.

I could just be paranoid but I'm fairly convinced the responses weren't from patriotic citizens. I think they were paid trolls or bots, and I think their purpose was to quiet negative talking points about the countries that were mentioned.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I have an lxc running a VPN, and where the host needs to access the internet (e.g. doing updates) I want to force that through the lxc VPN.

I dont want to interfere with local lan or cluster traffic - so just setting a default route isn't appropriate. Likewise I'm not sure just installing the VPN on the host is the right idea.

I'm pretty sure there is a way of doing it... its just not coming to me 😅

What is the best way to provide internet access to guests on a Proxmox VXLAN? Is it:

1. One node (host) in the cluster is the default gateway, all traffic is routed through it. Sounds clean and simple but there's multiple layers of jank to get it working, if it works at all
2. Have a guest (lxc or VM) on the VXLAN act as a gateway. Give it two NICs - one on the vnet and another on the hosts bridge (physical lan), route traffic through the second.

My default approach is the first but despite hours of tinkering and forwarding tricks it never works. I'm leaning more to the second but having a dedicated gateway guest seems like a waste of resources - logically the host should be doing it.

And yes, SNAT is enabled 😅
