I have been buying groceries through giftcards for over 3 years now and i have not died of hunger or dehydration. The cold is admittedly a bit harder. I dont have that one figured out yet.

But I am able to take my Monero and use it to interact with the brands and companies that everybody else uses.

What I was saying above is that for companies that accept different types of cryptocurrency directly, Monero is always in the top one or two spot.

Closest by far is Monero. They are actually willing to spend it as a currency, and when looking at statistics from companies that accept different cryptocurrencies, Monero is always either number one or number two on the list.

I know right, total insanity.

[-] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago

If they are any kind of intelligent, very little of it, because they will put it into Monero, and they will leave it there, and if they need fiat a little bit at a time, they'll pull it very slowly into fiat, as needed.

Totally unaffected. Haven't even visited that site for several years.

I use me@mydomain.com as my primary, contact@mydomain.com publicly, and storename_or_servicename@mydomain.com for stores or services

[-] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

I honestly cannot remember the last time I used Google search.

Though if I had to guess, it would be something around several years.

I get my groceries delivered once a month from Instacart because I'm blind, so if I wanted to go grocery shopping myself, I would have to spend money on an Uber to take me there, then get a shopping assistant to help me pick up the stuff I need, and then pay for an Uber back home, so it actually ends up being cheaper to just get it delivered, and I can see what I'm purchasing in the app.

[-] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

It's the only way to do it though, so you have no other choice.

[-] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Know you got the goods. Go ahead and show them off.

About the only thing I'm aware of that's still HTTP that a person would have a reason to visit would be their router's webpage and even then something like a self-signed Tofu's certificate would be fine for something like that.

If == 192.168., 10.0. then tofu

Overheat as there is no way to disperse heat in a vacuum

This is incorrect. You cannot do convection heat removal in a vacuum because there's no air. However, you can still do radiant heat dispersal.

So you dump your heat into something that has a lot of surface area with which to radiate it away from your components.

Space is either very hot or very cold, depending on whether you are in light or shadow. If one side is constantly exposed to light, then there must be radiators on the other side to radiate that heat back off into the cold.

It builds fine, but when attempting to run it i get

[nix-shell:~/build/cuprate/cuprate/target/release]$ ./cuprated -h

I have had my new RAK WisMesh Tag for about 15 hours so far and really like what I see. I do like the fact that it comes with a lanyard, although I feel as though the lanyard is too long, because when wearing it, the bottom of the node came down to the top of my belt. What I did instead is that I had a short chain from a pocket watch that did not work and so I used that instead and clipped it to my belt and if the node ever falls out of my pocket it will only go down as far as my knee and then the chain will catch it. Based on the battery drain overnight, I think I should get about five days on battery with the GPS turned off, which I like considering that my old Seeed T1000-E got three days and six hours with the GPS off. Since Meshcore-open does not currently have a background service and doesn't stay connected to the node when the app is closed, having a buzzer on the RAK makes things much nicer.

I live in an area where there is no MeshCore activity yet, so what I did is took my Heltec MeshPocket 10,000 mAh and flashed it as a room server with repeater functionality enabled, and set it in my window. It's not a great repeater, since it's not super high up, but it's the first piece of infrastructure in my area, and so when other infrastructure comes online, I will turn off its repeating.

Are you prepared for the day the #internet splits?

On the clearnet you will be

  1. Unable to watch porn.

  2. Required to give your real name and ID in order to use social media.

  3. Arrested for "mean tweets", "anti-government views", "liking subversive memes", etc

  4. Only be allowed to use approved applications from Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc

On #Tor and #I2P you can still be free.

What you can do to prepare

  1. Set your downlink speed to 10-15mbps to acclimatize yourself

  2. Encourage app developers to host their applications on Onion and Eepsite domains. (Git repos, fdroid repos, linux distro repos, etc)

  3. Run all applications that support SOCKS5 over the Tor SOCKS port (9050) (#Fdroid, #Signal, #SimpleX, #AntennaPod, etc)

  4. Use bookmarks or password manager notes to have the URLs of your commonly used programs, services, and repos (#Monero, #XMRBazaar, #Pitch, #Dread, etc.)

  5. Get used to text messages instead of audio or video calls. (Audio and video use UDP and generally give your real IP to either a central STUN server or the other peer. (it may be possible to force audio and video calls over TCP exclusively, but the latency would be high and therefore make the call unenjoyable.)

I shall soon be getting a Rak WisMesh Tag and currently have a Heltec MeshPocket 10,000 mAh that is currently set up as a mesh core companion. I know for a fact that there is some minimal meshtastic activity in my area and there is no meshcore activity in my area at all yet.

The way I see it, I have two options:

  1. Put the tag on Meshtastic and have one foot in both camps.
  2. Setup the MeshPocket as a repeater so it can auto zero hop advert once every three hours, or the equivalent of eight times per day, to let anybody passing through know that there's at least somebody here and use the tag as my companion node instead.

My personal opinion is that I like mesh core better, even though there's no activity in my area yet.

Edit:

We can also guess they're playing fractional reserve games with Monero.

  • Deposit limit: 10.8 xmr/mo
  • Withdraw limit: 4.6 xmr/mo

The fact that they're letting you deposit double what you can withdraw means they don't have enough Monero on their books to make it up for everybody. Otherwise, the deposit and withdraw amounts would be equal.

Starting September 30th, there's going to be a tsunami of Android users looking for an alternative system fleeing this developer verification malware.

In your opinion, are things like post market OS and the rest of the Linux phone ecosystem ready to take on these new users?

I noticed that in the original song, her lyric is something to the effect of, she's not a saint and she's not what you think, she's an actress. She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress.

In the new Taylor's version, it's, he was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches.

In my opinion, the original version was a pretty sick burn, and the new version is just a kind of cop-out. In my opinion, at least, she should not have changed it.

When talking about degoogle i always hear something to the effect of "but, my bank app bruh"

FUCK YO MUTHA FUCKIN BANK APP!!!

Like seriously, you lazy fuck head. You can use your fucking bank from this thing called a web browser. Some good examples are Firefox or Chromium.

If your bank does not allow you to use a website to manage your account, then SWITCH FUCKING BANKS!

I've heard that some people live in the European hellhole where you can't do banking from a website because of needing a phone to authenticate. In which case, buy yourself a cheap little ass Android phone that sits in a drawer powered off at all times unless you fucking need it.

You sorry excuse for a human being have no integrity because you talk like you want to maintain your sovereignty and then you're like, "oh, but it's too hard", so you do nothing.

On April 30th, the FCC voted that they wanted to demand KYC in order to use a phone number inside the United States. This may not end up happening, but better safe than sorry, and I'm trying to figure out ways around this problem in case they are needed.

The stated goal is to prevent spam and robo calls, and if a provider allows a robo call, it's something like a $2,500 fine per call, which means that services like Google Voice and text now and every cell phone and phone provider is going to require government ID. The provider has to keep your ID on record the entire time you have the service and then if you cancel the service they are required to keep your ID for four years after the date of cancellation. This will be a boone for hackers.

What i need help with:

  1. Secondary Internet connection: It doesn't happen often, but I use my phone as a secondary internet connection if, for example, my home ISP is ever out. I am not sure yet if data only sims will be a problem since they can't make or receive telephone calls and make and receive text messages. So this may or may not be an issue. I guess if nothing else I could go to the local McDonald's or something like that and use their Wi-Fi if my ISP was ever out in order to contact the customer service of my ISP online to let them know about it.

  2. Access to banking: Banks are so stupid in general, but every time I log in to my online account, it has to send me a phone call or a text message in order to verify that I am who I say I am, regardless of the fact that we all know that the telephone system is complete garbage for this use case, but they're banks, so what else can you expect, right?

  3. Access to ride sharing services: I lost access to Lyft several years ago, because they no longer allowed you to book rides from their website, and I refused to install the app, and even if I wanted to install the app, it requires Google spy services, which I will not install on my device. That left me with only the option of Uber, which is fine, except that they also require a phone number, and if you don't have one, then you can't receive your text message verification codes again, and stuff like that to log in.

Without a telephone number, you can't call a taxi either. At least not that I'm aware of, because the old way of doing taxis before Uber came out was through the telephone system, and I'm not aware if taxis have evolved since then.
