I was seriously the latter group, until I took the time to unsub from GOG's countless barrage of emails. I'm still subbed to 2-Minute Tabletop because their emails don't show up too much and usually have more in them than just sales and wishlist games.

I'll still buy from Valve just to reward them

Then you don't care about the Sony dropping physical media thing, since you're willing to give Valve a free pass despite literally paving the road Sony is going down on.

I'd expect people boycotting Sony over their decision to be better informed than that, and stay clear of Valve's dystopia, right? Right?

EDIT: also since you said consoles are locked down to 1 store yourself, I want you to make a guess how many PlayStation users are going to figure out that they can go buy their stuff from GOG on hardware literally branded after Steam, where as I established, its subscribers don't give a shit about other stores, much less GOG.

Live services are all the rage because, well, you can see where I'm going now. One or two could flop, but maybe third time's the charm and it generates all the profit. That's the reason other companies - not just Sony - double down on live services despite these flops.

You're expecting the average Sony fan to know about GOG? That's kinda cute. Steam subscribers don't care about GOG, if they even know about its existence.

But Valve's hardware still have no physical media, and their digital model is still what's inspiring Sony. How about being consistent and rewarding neither?

Which, again, they wouldn't double down on said decisions if they didn't know by heart that Gamers™ will be distracted by the next issue, or the new shiny as the commenter noted.

Ah yes the """platform""" that Sony is copying from...

[-] cybernihongo@reddthat.com 3 points 6 days ago

Sony wouldn't even be doing this kind of war of attrition if it didn't know that eventually, Gamers™ will forget and accept it.

All this doomsday prep and he couldn't be bothered to buy games from GOG before the nukes fell? Oh well, deserves it for trusting DRM launchers HA

It uninstalled AnkiConnect for me. No warning first to tell me the app was malicious (it isn't), no prompt of whether or not it's OK to remove it. Just yeeted.

I had to disable Play Protect from Google Play's settings, and that wasn't enough as notifications would now pop up saying the app is malicious after I brought it back, so then I shut off those notifications.

When the warranty on my phone runs out or it's under threat of not being able to unlock the bootloader, I'll unlock the bootloader and put on a custom ROM without Gapps. Fuck this bullshit. And Google wants to make installing apps harder to feed its ego. Fuck billionaires.

The fox news defense?

224

(Video not by me)

PC Gamer and GamingOnLinux recently covered a few things about GOG's usage of genAI for promotional content, but this video goes into deeper coverage about their Head of Product being responsible for their direction. (Cue scam AI Instagram girls). It also covers how the company chose to respond to the backlash regarding their usage of genAI.

It's sad to see them being brazen about their AI usage. I advocated for them several times, owning games (anything, really) is something that should be for granted. All of this makes their store look really cheap and turns off people from thinking about the idea.

Literally as I was reading this, I thought the commentary was about ICE doing its evil.
