People who hate AI can discriminate against those who celebrate it, and people who hate Apple can discriminate against their customers. That seems fair to me. Does it to you?

I see zero problem with this, at least from a moral or ethical point of view, and except perhaps describing it as "hate". This is another choice of words that seems to draw a parallel to racism and other forms of bigotry.

The issue I'm pointing to isn't that you're misusing the words technically, but that you seem to be using them to draw a parallel to unfair discrimination and prejudice, such as in racism.

The strict definition of a word can vary from its connotation in context, and a well-communicated idea accounts for both. If it was never your intention to draw a parallel to racism or other forms of bigotry then your opinion as presented is less "unpopular" and more "badly communicated".

There's nothing immoral about judging someone by their choices, though. Whether it's the clothes they wear or the tools they use. In fact, I would argue that their personal choices are the most morally defensible basis from which to form an opinion about someone.

I'm not saying the user isn't making a moral judgement, I'm saying the OP is implying a moral parallel to racism and bigotry that simply doesn't exist here.

[-] charonn0@startrek.website 1 points 13 hours ago

My critique of your position is that you are intentionally using these words to imply immorality where there is none, not that you are using the words incorrectly.

In other words, I believe you're trying to say that boycotting or calling out AI use is immoral in the same way that racism is immoral. If that's not what you are trying to say, then I would suggest using different words.

Using words like "prejudice" and "discriminate" implies a moral dimension that I don't think applies here. There's nothing inherently immoral about disapproving of AI use or not wanting to unwittingly consume AI-generated content.

I think you're really asking who is to blame. And I'm not so sure that's the same question, or even a useful question.

They are responsible for their situation and they are victims of circumstance. These are not mutually exclusive.

Last year I bought a brand new Puckipuppy ebike for $1,399.00.

I love it and feel like it was money well spent. In fact, I've been planning to buy a second Puckipuppy and have been stalking their website for the past few months looking at different models and mentally noting their regular prices. I was even going to order it directly from their website, cutting out Amazon.

Like most retailers they've been trumpeting about their upcoming "black friday" sale, and I've been anxious to see what kind of discounts were on offer. I checked again today.

I expected they would inflate their regular prices and then offer "big" discounts. We all know that's what happens, but I was not expecting something so blatant.

Last week, the bike I wanted was still listed for $1,399.00.

Today it's listed at... $1,399... marked down from $2,999.99.

To quote Mr. Worf, "you must think me a fool to make your lies so transparent!"

I don't like fixing my own flat tires. I can do it but not quickly or efficiently; it's not something I can do on the side of the road under duress. I should probably work on that, I know, but in the meantime I take my bike to a local shop and have them do it for me.

But my ebike is pretty heavy, which means a flat tire is basically immobilizing. I've had to call a friend or hire a truck when I get a flat. I'm wondering if there's anything like an auto club for cyclists. Maybe even a service that would fix my flat right there on the spot.

I googled, but don't trust the search results. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions?

Took a wrong turn yesterday and didn't realize it for quite a while. Stopped here to get my bearings.

Encountered these big boys while exploring a local bike trail. The photo doesn't do them justice.

I cleaned out the junk drawer and found a bunch of Starbucks gift cards that I've received for various reasons over the past 15 years. I used one from 2015 today and the barista was mildly surprised and asked where I got such an old-style card. So I told him about the junk drawer.
