Correct me if I'm wrong, but afaik Mailbox.org is not encrypted (beyond standard TLS, that is).

Their main selling point used to be bring-your-own-domain emails for 1€/mo but they changed their pricing to a more average 3€/mo earlier this year.

They have an opt-in feature that encrypts all emails that will be saved in your inbox with an PGP key pair, like Proton does. https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/security-privacy-article/activate-your-mailbox-org-guard

How is the Protonmail mobile client compared to fastmail? Just asking in case someone has used both.

I really like Fastmail though. So many useful features everywhere and it's very fast.

I realize I have no privacy from governments however. Fastmail is part of 5 eyes pact.

I migrated to ProtonMail out of curiosity after more than a decade, but when they turned over the IP address of a fucking CLIMATE ACTIVIST to police, I decided to halt that process

Are you referring to this?

Notable cases involving Swiss court orders include a case involving death threats made against well-known immunologist Anthony Fauci and a case against French climate activists. After these cases, in October 2021, Proton Mail won an important Swiss court victory that confirmed that email services cannot be considered telecommunications providers, and consequently are not subject to the data retention requirements imposed on telecommunications providers.

It sounds like they followed Swiss law and then worked to update the laws to prevent it from happening again, all while never sharing the contents of any emails (which they can't because they're encrypted).

The police was able to get just the IP addresses. Hide your IPs with Tor for political activism, etc.

If your account is that sensitive, generally no. Fastmail wouldn't escape the court order to turn over some email account' IPs either. Plus, for accounts that are not e2e encrypted, the law may just demand the contents of the account.

If you have the state actors as enemies, you have to dial up your securities to a different category altogether.

It seems to work fine for me. Haven't received any problems. If you're interested in getting protonmail and protonvpn, proton unlimited is a really sweet plan, really recommend it. Proton has really good support as well.

I use tutanota and really dig it. I basically only give its email address to more important things and let gmail be a junk mail now.

Tutanota needs a native mail client that’s not based on electron. It feels like a chore to open new emails in their current apps.

ProtonMail is more name than actual security product

I use StartMail.com with Apple Mail for Client… This is way more safe and better than gmail
