Last weeks thread here

Welcome to this week’s casual kōrero thread!

This post will be pinned in this community so you can always find it, and will stay for about a week until replaced by the next one.

It’s for talking about anything that might not justify a full post. For example:

  • Something interesting that happened to you
  • Something humourous that happened to you
  • Something frustrating that happened to you
  • A quick question
  • A request for recommendations
  • Pictures of your pet
  • A picture of a cloud that kind of looks like an elephant
  • Anything else, there are no rules (except the rule)

So how’s it going?

Anyone do anything good for Matariki?

I've written the draft of the census results. One thing that is clear from the census results is that I need a proof reader. Any volunteers to proof read the draft?

We had good weather for once, so I went for a reasonably long (43km or so) bike ride and then climbed [a very small mountain] (https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/auckland/places/mount-william-area/tracks/mount-william-walkway/) that we've been meaning to check out for a while.

Nice! I also went for a bike ride, with one of my kids (7yo). About 10km, so they did really well!

Yes, the weather was awesome!

Hang on, the Bombay hills aren't a euphemism, that's a real suburb? Holy shit...

Yeah New Zealand has a few references to British India. The Coromandel Peninsula is named after the Coromandel Coast in East India.

Huh, choice!

I can if it's not until next week.

Thanks for the offer but you're too slow. Results post is up: https://lemmy.nz/post/12001861

You can still proof read it, though 😆

Ah I didn't see it. Thanks for the link, interesting.

On a casual read through: "satellite" is misspelt,  "fibre" is randomly capitalized in the section on fibre quality, typo "team" for "term" in the ethnicity section, and in the employment status section "less" should be "fewer". 😊

Thanks! I have updated them all.

So much work at work. Good thing they're paying me for it.

3 day weekends are fucking amazing: I got top spend all Friday in bed with a tension headache and still had a weekend after it all!

Sadly, I work in a hospital (not clinically), and the whole sector has been 'set alight' recently, so there's no chance of negotiating a 4 day week

Lots of exercise and feeling hung over as a result which has been great. Days getting lighter, too - long way to go though!

If you play your sick leave and annual leave just right, you can probably get a 4 day week for most of the year. Though someone might notice the pattern.

I was gonna suggest four 10 hour days, but if I know anything about hospitals you probably already work eight 36 hour shifts a week. Maybe you escape that.

You know I never thought of that. My team leader is so absent they probably wouldn't even notice, too
