Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't fork-bomb your computer.

Why does everything in the FOSS sphere have to be made overtly creepy by adding anime teenage schoolgirls?

    [–] Avero@feddit.org 45 points 4 months ago (1 children)

every slightly popular thing gets their anime girls, nothing can escape

    [–] AVincentInSpace@pawb.social 25 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

every major tech company has an anime mascot. Here's AMD's one: https://moeverse.xyz/wiki/Amada_Kokoro

And here's the one Microsoft made for Internet Explorer:

Clicking that image will take you to her Wikipedia article.

Let me introduce you to the concept of the Venn Diagram

    [–] A_Very_Big_Fan@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Why are you showing me a circle

    [–] mrvictory1@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If you think this is restricted to FOSS, you are gravely mistaken https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS-tan

    [–] helenslunch@feddit.nl 2 points 4 months ago

    I didn't say it was...

    [–] Neon@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (3 children)

    Wait, there's actual text there?

All I see in Voyager is an empty text box.

    [–] absentbird@lemm.ee 6 points 4 months ago

    It's an image.

    [–] mexicancartel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

The image before loading is shown a blank message first in comments

    [–] folkrav@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

I do see an image on Voyager iOS

    [–] aidan@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

The Debian logo is very similar to the progynova logo (progynova is estrogen). The above image is probably inspired by that.

    [–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

Nah, I think it predates trans culture memes becoming so mainstream.

    [–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Yet, I don't see a direct relation between (trans) gender and sexuality. (I've seen a meme making fun of the similarity of the logos and packaging before, so I see the point).

(city 17 logo) The City 17 logo featured on several Combine devices.

    Welcome. Welcome to City 17.

    [–] Iloveyurianime@ani.social 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Woudnt it make sense for computers in city 17 running something like RedstarOS so that they can see what every single citizen is doing

Can't be late if you celebrate pride every month

    [–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 15 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I thought we just had a pride month, how many are there now??

    [–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 32 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Debian is out of date. That's it. That's the entire joke. It's basically this without beating on the rotting horse corpse of IE. (And this, like the IE meme, is funnier the longer it's been since June).

    [–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 6 points 4 months ago

    Hah. That's pretty clever

    [–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 13 points 4 months ago

    Shoulda used the lesbian colours.

    [–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

Wdym "sorry" this is amazing <3

Without the thin black outline i would steal this for future use

    [–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 11 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Personally I think it is too blocky and the colors too random, but I don't know the original comment that gave the inspiration. I like this one much more, although I'd rather see the rainbow colors follow the direction of the swirl more.

    It's the disk usage analyzer.

I was hoping to find something exactly like this, but I didn't - what I used was the Debian Diversity logo from their own site.

Interesting, to me, the dual gradient looks like late 90s WordArt lol

    [–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I was more talking about the logo itself, not the background.

    [–] folkrav@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

    Ah, yeah fair enough.

    [–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

I'll fix it up in a bit, but I made it on my phone because I was in the process of re-installing Debian on my potato laptop, and it felt like blasphemy to make it on my gaming laptop (which is currently Windows only until I get another SSD for it), lol.

EDIT: fixed. Mind you, it's still not good...

Cool thanks :D Indeed making this on a windoofus machine would be blasphemy lol

    [–] eldain@feddit.nl 5 points 4 months ago

Let me guess, pride month 2022?
