Sometimes we feel like we're screaming into the void

Bet that's how scientists felt the past 20+ years.

I'll tell you what else is screaming. The 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel in my 2023 Ford F-150 SuperDuty. You see, it's a robust and versatile heavy-duty pickup truck designed to excel in performance, technology, and comfort. With powerful engine options, and advanced features like the SYNC 4 infotainment system and comprehensive driver-assistance technologies, it offers exceptional towing and payload capabilities. Available in multiple trims and cab configurations, the SuperDuty combines rugged design with a spacious and well-appointed interior, making it ideal for both demanding work tasks and running over children in my neighborhood.

And it will idle for an hour before and during fireworks, that cold quad zone AC will keep everyone at their ideal comfortable temperature.

Here I was thinking this was gonna end with " and 25 years ago undertaker threw mankind off hell in the cell into an announcers table".

"I still think the scientists were wrong," people will say, as the world burns around them.

Yeah, I think covid proved many people would rather die that confront reality.

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Religion is proof of this.

It's how I've felt for the past 20+ years.

If the party had backed Al Gore we'd have flying cars driven by talking dogs by now

It's insane how much shit would have been better if the party had his back

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Uhm, do you need a reminder that Bush was chosen by the Supreme Court, who essentially told them to stop the count?

Do you need a reminder that three current Supreme Court Justices worked on that legal case to hand the victory to Bush, and somehow very conveniently they all later were confirmed as Justices?

Like how the fuck are they supposed to have his back when the Supreme Court was taking the side of the Bush team in regards to the hanging chads debacle? What were they supposed to do? Just ignore the ruling, finish the count, and do what Trump is doing now? Lawfare it to hell and back? It was already at the Supreme Court, I'm really failing to understand what the party could have done to "have his back."

[–] djsoren19@yiffit.net 10 points 4 months ago

The Republicans stole an election, yes the Dems should have engaged in as much "lawfare" as necessary to prevent them from stealing an election.

It only looks stupid when Donald Trump does it because the kind of large-scale election fraud he is claiming is the kinda conspiracy only an insane person could believe. Gore had the votes, the Dems should never have stopped pushing for the full recount.

[–] maynarkh@feddit.nl 6 points 4 months ago

Lawfare it to hell and back?

Well, yes?

The Earth will heal after a couple million years, nothing to the 3.8 billion year history of terran life. Might as well be eternity to our monkey brains, but good news! We won't be around anymore to suffer the wait.

Once our mother has dealt with the surface nuisance, at least.

I take solace in knowing we're only destroying ourselves and many of the contemporary species unlucky enough to have existed during the short time in Earth's history where we played pretend we were this world's masters/owners instead of its children/subjects that we actually were.

Man, we were a rotten fucking kid.

[–] thegr8goldfish@startrek.website 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Personally I don't think humans are going anywhere. We might destroy most of the biosphere and a large portion of humanity but I bet in the end roaches go extinct before we do.

[–] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Anything is possible, but I would agree that barring an extinction level event. We'll be around, although a mass kill off humans is likely in next 100 years.

Have you seen this video?

Timelapse of the Future https://youtu.be/uD4izuDMUQA

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Great video, thank you.

Reminds me of a dialogue from Doctor Who:

Both Standing at the end of time

Ashildr: I’ve been watching the stars die. It was beautiful.

The Doctor: No, it was sad.

Ashildr: No. It was both.

I love Portland! That gaming bar Ground Kontrol is so awesome!

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

It's a great place! Got a little dicey during the pandemic though. :(

That absolute waste of DNA James Inhofe didn't live to see the damage he's caused the world.

Shareholders will be content to pay slightly higher prices to run the AC while the poors sizzle.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 4 months ago

In my county there were 2 cities that set new all time record high temps of 115 F/46+ C last week. I’d be shocked if it was the last record this year for us.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 months ago

some of us are screaming into the void; the rest are supporting a president who gives token gestures to the environment on one hand while simultaneously blocking affordable green energy products and ramping up oil production in the name of maintaining the status quo on the other.
