And thus begins the beginning of the chillo season.

At front is an orange hab , ones at the back are thais. Took under a week to pop which was surprising.

My dog did something that I've never seen him do before. Waited until the kid got up from the kitchen table to blow her nose, leaped on to the chair, skinny body stretched out, front paws on the table and hoovered the rest of her meal up in seconds. He didn't even stop when I walked in. This is why I have rules about pushing chairs in.

Sammi woke me at 4:00 for snuggles and purrs. Not exactly complaining, given the circumstances.
She requested breakfast a little later, and after a little trial and error, chicken creamy treats seem to be the way to go.
Still going to take her back for a follow up with the senior vet as soon as I can, but I'm a lot more hopeful than I was yesterday.

Sweet Sammi, eating is a good sign!

Edit: you can download these PDFs for free, and do it on Sammi. The Feline Grimace Scale - it should help to tell you if Sammi is currently in pain. https://www.felinegrimacescale.com/

I use that, and TPR (temp, pulse rate, respiratory rate) Temp - use a rectal thermometer, temp shouldn't be above 39c. (Normal range: 37.2c - 39.2c)
Pulse rate - if she lets you, you can feel for the femoral artery underneath their back legs near the groin. Time it for 15secs and multiply by 4. No higher than 200beats per min (normal range: 160-200)
Edit: you can also use your hand under their front left leg, next to their heart if you cannot find the back leg artery
Respiratory rate - watch their breathing, when not purring! Time it over 15 seconds and then multiply by 4, shouldn't be higher than 30 breaths per minute. (Normal range: 15 - 30).

Of any of these are above their max thresholds, then Sammi may be in pain. Obviously she is unwell, but this may be helpful in the future or to anyone else unsure when to take their cat to the vet :)

Edit edit: Grimace scales seem fanciful but are used on lab mice, rats, and rabbits, cats and I believe dogs.

Had donuts cravings this morning that demanded satisfaction. The Paris theme ones really hit the spot, especially the creme brulee πŸ˜‹ Still riding the high of Miniest winning "Most Creative Costume" award at her parade on Friday. Omg I'm eating out ATM in a busy place and I just sneezed into a napkin in a way that made a seal with my mouth. It came out as an enormous squeak squeal thing and turned everyone's heads. Eek.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Atleast you didn't do a little wee at the same time.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

that’s the first step to being a casual vacuum cleaner

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago (4 children)

There he was in a busy place
Shoving his food into his face
When the urge to sneeze suddenly took over
He grabbed a napkin to keep his composure
But a seal he made with his dainty mouth
An uncouth sound, it's all gone south
The cafe turns their heads to him
As he sits in silence with his sin.

And now torrential rain with crazy wind, holy crap

Edit - the chaos is over but that was a super strong storm when it got going, lucky the worst part didn’t last too long. The wind was insane with hail mixed in.

Mother trucker I slept so much last night! Another 10 hours solid? Some unsettling dreams that were an extrapolation of the deeply excruciating arthouse film I watched on Friday (dark lighting, endless rain, depressingly small and crowded concrete living space, and drawn out toilet scenes). I would've loved some sun today but no dice, so it's time to pack up my things and go to uni...

...though I also just want to spend today curled up and blanked out. It's okay. Next weekend. Next weekend I will be able to take a real breather.

I reluctantly turned down an opportunity to catsit for a friend next month because the driving to work/uni/my home (to check in on plants) was gonna be heinous, on top of not having my usual comforts. I do NOT want to burn out again this soon. But... cat.

I went to get a chicken burger from Red Rooster. They left me sitting at the drive thru window for ages after I’d ordered at the box. Eventually I saw one of the cooks walk up to the guy who was meant to come and see me, he had my burger in his hand and must have said β€œcan I give this to the drive thru?” or something and the guy said yes so he comes over and hands me the burger, says have a good night and closes the window. Notice that at no point had I paid.

I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been playing too much cowboy video game but I just left with my burger. Peeled out of there like I’d pulled off a heist. So I’m officially an outlaw now. Life is rough on the other side of the law but it sure is excitin’! Yeehaw!

Every single day I have been sorting and clearing out boxes. Today it's getting rid of some sewing supplies I will never use. Maybe some one else can get some use. Yesterday it was a bunch of books, some dvds and some kitchenware I didn't want.

There was a Rush cover band playing at Max Watts last night, I wish I could have gone. Usually I'm not one for cover bands but it sounds like these guys play Rush songs exactly the way they did, and they were doing Moving Pictures and the song Hemispheres in full

The second round of Weather has coincided with the thankful resolution of 2 hours of panicking over losing my phone and retracing my steps a billion times.

Fittingly, it turns out my phone was lodged in my umbrella... I must've dropped it in there when I left it loosely open and upside down while going to the bathroom or something.

that was a very stressful 2 hours though fuck me.

At my casual retail job, I don't get a consistent number of hours. Last year, they asked me if I wanted to do a three hour shift that starts at 7am on a Sunday which is every week. I said yes due to the consistency and the pay being good. But I find myself being unable to sleep at a reasonable hour, and so every Sunday, I am extremely groggy and irritable. It's been a year of this, and I ruined the relationship I was in because of emotional impulsivity due to lack of sleep. I also consistently make little mistakes during the shift that I wouldn't make if I had slept properly, which also probably affects the way the managers see me. I tend to daudle getting ready because I'm so tired and am usually in a rush to get to work. I also don't get to go out on Saturday nights, which I guess isn't that much of a dealbreaker, but still kind of sucks. I've figured something has to change. I feel like if I can't even wake up at 6 without being a freaking insomniac, I don't think I'll be able to hold down a job. I don't know how I'll be able to wake up for placement if I do teaching or some allied health course.

So it's either, I force myself to wake up at 7am every single day and keep the 6am wake up on a Sunday, in the hope that I'll be able to sleep better and improve my sleep hygiene. This is coming from a night owl who somehow just comes awake when I'm supposed to sleep. I'm thinking this is probably the better option for now because I don't have the energy or time to write cover letters.

Or I quit and find a more predictable part time job that will allow me to take annual leave during potential placement next year. This will probably help with giving me a sense of routine.

and I ruined the relationship I was in because of emotional impulsivity due to lack of sleep.

pretty sure the guy was a dick and that had nothing to do with anything you did

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago
[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Your partner being tired from working weird shifts is part of a relationship. Your ex sounded like a dick head. That's not on you. I had a few women break up with me when I was studying and being a bouncer, yeah honey I work thu/fri/sat nights and sleep all day. That's the job, what did you expect?

Takes two to tango. Please, only accept HALF the blame for the 'relationship' failure. At most. I know this is hard, but thinking that everything is your fault and your fault alone is at best 'magical thinking' and at worst can get very dark indeed. Also, lack of sleep is NOT the sole and only cause of emotional ups and downs. You are a good person, dealing with some issues re scheduling of time and energy. Which are solvable.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

Seriously have a sit down and push for shifted hours. Just straight up tell them you cannot work these hours any more, don't elaborate why. You don't owe them answers on that front, but you can suggest alternatives. I'm a hardwired nightowl, i've found that starting 10am onwards tends to be a good compromise
