Any reason for me to not use Paramount.

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Seriously, why is the app just so bad?

[–] RoundSparrow@startrek.website 2 points 1 year ago

So I see that YouTube is offering a free trial (USA) of Showtime + Paramount Plus... for 7 days. Does that mean I get to use YouTube's streaming/app?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

Is the next season on Paramount? In the UK the first three seasons are all on Disney plus.

Strange New World is on Paramount, but not Lower Decks.

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'd watch more of Paramount than Netflix and what's not to love about more Trek

[–] incendiaryperihelion@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I have tried a few times but just cannot enjoy this show

[–] JWBananas@startrek.website 15 points 1 year ago

That's okay!

First half of season 1 I couldn't stand the characters, but I feel they settle down after that then it gets really good then! But to each their own!

I’ve never watched Lower Decks and probably won’t. But, the SNW crossover was one of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen. At least it was for me.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

There was a DS9 crossover episode in LD season 3, if you’re interested.

[–] Uranium3006@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Oh you should, it's so good. Probably ties with SNW

[–] Eeyore_Syndrome@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

But have you watched the strange new worlds crossover episode?

[–] thejohnr@universeodon.com 5 points 1 year ago

@Eeyore_Syndrome @incendiaryperihelion
I saw that with no knowledge of Lower Decks. It was an instant favorite. My wife cares little for Star Trek but she sat down and laughed along with me.

[–] alansuspect@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago

I just watched that one, but haven't watched the LD show. I enjoyed the episode knowing what it was (especially when they cartooned the SNW crew) but I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the show, they were quite annoying and didn't respect the chain of command enough 😂

[–] Custoslibera@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What is it that you don’t like?

[–] incendiaryperihelion@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it was largely a miss with the humor for me. It seemed like it was mostly just referential humor, just kind of "hey I watched star trek" but without substance. I dont love the animation style either, but that's not been an issue for me in the past so long as the writing was entertaining enough

[–] StillPaisleyCat@startrek.website 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It struggled with that the first half season, but it found its own voice over time.

The fact that it’s found and retained its own dedicated fanbase who have no prior experience of Trek is evidence enough that it stands on its own.

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Every single Star Trek series from TNG onward struggled in the beginning and took a season or two to really find itself. It's basically the shape of TV Trek.

Agree totally. Which is why I have a certain exasperation for those who gave Lower Decks and Prodigy a couple of episodes and then decided it’s not for them.

[–] renormalizer@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

They seem to have pulled Season 3 here in Germany even though it was marketed as an "Amazon Original". Seasons 1 and 2 are still on Prime. Pretty disappointed because I just started a rewatch.

[–] marlowe@meow.social 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@renormalizer

@ValueSubtracted

This licensing bullshit is really making me furious, from all streaming services nowadays

[–] Splitdipless@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Arr. It be a problem matey.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 4 points 1 year ago

Here in Italy season 3 is only for "premium" on prime.

The state of streaming services is embarrassing.

It’s all moved to Paramount+ and SkyShowtime.

... I'm probably not the first to point out that Star Trek they do a lot of walking, they don't go transporting everywhere. Why wouldn't the Golden Gate be a pedestrian crossing... just for the view. I don't get why you would write it that way, it isn't really humor, it's just lazy.

EDIT: ok, the Ketracel-white hot sauce was the quality of joke I was expecting ;) The NOLA culture stuff is great.
