What does your battlestation look like? PS4/5, XBox, PC or some oddball Chinese retro handheld?

Steamdeck took over most of my gaming. It's by far the best gaming device ever made imo.

[–] 0xc0ba17@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

I'm playing on my Steam Deck like I was playing on my Switch 6 years ago. I prefer my indie games on handheld devices, so a good half of my playtime is spent on the Deck.

I have a full gaming rig, but mainly play on my Steamdeck - it's so much more convenient to just be able to pick it up and play.

I only play on my Steam Deck and/or on my Desktop running Arch(btw)

Desktop Specs: OS: Arch Linux CPU: Intel i7-9700K GPU: Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition RAM: 2x8GB 3600 MHz

[–] Azzamean@beehaw.org 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Primary is now Steam Deck.

PC is pretty much used for work and installing games to move to the Steam Deck.

After zero PC gaming in forever I got myself a Steam Deck and have been loving how it performs!

Series X has been my focus but the lack of decent games made me move elsewhere before Starfield drops.

But also have a Miyoo Mini V2, and a jailbroken Switch.

[–] HowDoYouDo87@beehaw.org 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

PS5 for me! I’m basic :)

[–] lajian@beehaw.org 5 points 2 years ago

+1 fellow PS5 (& Switch) gamer here. It has to be quick and easy.

[–] LeifJ@beehaw.org 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I mainly play https://geoguessr.com in a bog standard web browser. Ubuntu. No console or advanced gaming pc rig.

I have my main PC, plus a retro gaming / emulation machine for the living room, and an anbernic RG 351 MP (handheld) that can emulate just about everything up to the N64. All GNU/Linux.

I mostly play steam games, plus Xonotic, Beyond All Reason, and Veloren. I've been playing Animal Crossing with my partner lately, and Windwaker on the living room machine.

I just don't see much value in mainstream consoles these days when you could instead have a proper computer and all the versatility that brings.

[–] GadgeteerZA@beehaw.org 7 points 2 years ago

Linux desktop running Manjaro - mostly use Steam Games and Veloren

[–] Xer0@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 years ago (2 children)

PS5 mainly. I do have a gaming pc but at the moment I'm just casual gaming on the sofa when I have time. I love the PS5, I think it's the best Sony console since the PS2.

Ps4, pc and mobile.

Obligatory "Fuck Google" for killing Stadia.

[–] butter@lemmy.jamestrey.com 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Stadia was great. No monthly fee. Good enough selection of games. If they had put literally any effort into it, they could've done amazing.

It was cool of Google to give me my money back for my games.

I don't play games with much frequency, but I play on some combination of Steam Deck and a desktop running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, a Linux distro.

Edits/Changes: Forgot to specify Tumbleweed.

[–] nachtigall@feddit.de 7 points 2 years ago

Mostly PC (Linux), sometimes Switch. I also have a Raspberry Pi as a retro console emulator for old stuff like the original The Legend of Zelda.

[–] any1th3r3@beehaw.org 6 points 2 years ago (4 children)

for me it's one of:

  • PS5
  • Xbox Series X
  • Steam Deck
  • Switch
  • Analogue Pocket
  • Analogue Super Nt
  • PS Vita
  • PS3
  • 3DS

not really by order of preference, but i guess how much i've used them recently

Steam Deck.

I've never owned a decent gaming machine, for various reasons. Cost was a big factor. Another was the fact that I was never a big "gamer". Very little desire to play the big, popular, AAA games in general. The games I did play, I played on a very old PC, and the performance was what you'd expect from low end hardware; but I just never had any desire to build my own gaming rig.

The Steam Deck is perfect for my use case:

  • I have no desire to run Windows
  • I have no desire to build my own gaming machine
  • I have no desire to get locked into a console ecosystem (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, etc).
  • I can play handled, docked to a monitor with keyboard and mouse, docked to a monitor with a controller, docked to a TV, etc etc
  • I can play games built for Windows
  • I can play games with native Linux builds
  • I can play Steam games, Epic games, DRM-free games, emulated games, etc, etc
  • I can do whatever the hell else I want to do with it. For example, maybe I might want to run Kodi on it, and connect to my Jellyfin server at home to watch a movie if I'm staying at a hotel. Whatever. It's just a computer like any other. I can do whatever I want.

I think I've probably played more new (to me) games since buying my SD than in all the years (decades) previous, and I love it.

Steam Deck, it's been great for working through my backlog.

[–] raresbears@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

Arch Linux (btw)

(on desktop not a laptop or anything)

[–] dtlnx@beehaw.org 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

PC, Steam Deck.

PC for multiplayer titles that require comms, and Steam Deck for everything else.

[–] GhostMagician@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

Steam Deck has been one of my best purchases to use alongside my PC. I have a Switch too, but I don't use it much when there aren't new exclusives. But, the Deck having the same ga,e progress as my main PC has led to constant use when I want to play on a handheld.

Only on my Switch. I only have so many hours I can dedicate to gaming with my job, a master's program, and taking care of my 2.5-year-old.

Wish I could get a PS5 though. There are some PS5 titles I'd really love to try.

[–] Rand@beehaw.org 5 points 2 years ago

Used to be a console guy, then after xbox one - me and all my gaming buddies went to PC. Now I play on a PC I built myself and I own a Steam Deck!

[–] kilgore@feddit.de 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

100% Steam Deck for me! Though I might charge up my Switch again for TOTK this summer....

[–] nadiaraven@beehaw.org 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've been playing TotK since day 1 for over 100 hours and still haven't run out of content. Breath of the Wild was my favorite game of all time, and Tears of the Kingdom easily beats it. I wonder if it plays well on Yuzu yet?

My main battlestation has a medium-sized CRT and underneath it is a Wii, a Genesis, a Saturn, an Atari 2600, and a Canon V-20 MSX. I also have a Switch with a split pad pro and a Game Gear that's always tethered to an outlet in the bedroom, and have a few games on my laptop

[–] wagesof@links.wageoffsite.com 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm a PC guy myself. I use a PC desktop w an AMD 3900X, nvidia 3080 Founders Edition. I also love my steam deck and have a Valve Index for VR.

I seem to be using the steam deck more and more since I'm on a pixel art retro JRPG kick and the deck handles them with ease.

[–] Lowbird@beehaw.org 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't have a steam deck, but my experience with handhelds is that even if you never take them anywhere it's worth it even just for the ability to curl up in bed with it like you would with a book. It's so cozy.

Also have a little NUC and an older machine. All on Linux.

I usually game on my pc - Linux, but I use windows 10 for VR. I've heard that VR gaming on linux is very bad.

I have a Nintendo Switch for nintendo games, but these days I play more on my 3ds for older emulated games and ds games.

[–] Swintoodles@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

PC exclusively nowadays. Not a fan of forced obsolescence rampant in consoles. Maybe the odd phone game to pass the time, but those are usually the most basic of games.

[–] fox@beehaw.org 5 points 2 years ago

Steam Deck, Analogue Pocket, and a desktop running Pop!_OS

[–] AnomanderRake@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

Steam Deck mostly, had a gaming PC but it died. I use my Xbox one for game pass games.

[–] chloyster@beehaw.org 5 points 2 years ago

I play on my PC mostly. Using my switch for the first time in a while just for totk. Also play on my steam deck a bit love that thing.

[–] HER0@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

For all of my gaming needs, I have a desktop PC running Linux as well as a Steam Deck. I recently came back from a trip that had me using my Steam Deck a lot, and it was great.

PSVR2 with HonsVR prescription lenses and a Switch.

[–] NoxiousPluK@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 years ago

Almost entirely PC only. I have a bunch of retro consoles but rarely use them.

[–] Nyanix@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

PC

  • Ryzen 3700x
  • 32gb ram
  • RTX 3080 ti
  • Linux

Steam Deck

My last consoles were the Xbox 360 & PS4, but haven't touched those in years, went all in on the PC rig

[–] Lowbird@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

Mostly PC. Windows 10 (I tried Linux and noped out for a number of reasons unrelated to gaming). Nvidia 1070 that's still trucking along just fine and allowing me to play even the newest games (so glad I upgraded not too long before the GPU market went to shit).

Also I fucking love the Nintendo New 3ds XL. Long live the 3ds. It ain't dead to me, and won't be until an actual 3DS successor (aka, another handheld with 3D, and preferably dual-screen, so the switch does not count) appears, however far into the future that may be.

PS5 here. I have a Switch and a Quest but don't use them.

[–] WithaC@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

PC mainly, AMD 5800X and and a GTX1080. Unfortunately it's located in my bedroom, so so for late night gaming I am limited to my Xbox series X. I do have a Switch sitting in it's dock ready to be used but I don't ever seem to have the desire to do so.

[–] Raincloud@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The Switch and my Linux PC. And the Analogue Pocket, love that thing.
