i loved the parts where it felt like we were examining all of our social norms and skipping the ones that were dumb and pointless. but now everything has to be just as dumb and shitty as before for no reason [no social safety net allowed, WFH bad, etc]

Just as I thought I was out of having to shake the hands of twenty people when arriving at a family party, they PULL ME BACK IN! Some of them literally!

Bonus: Me wondering how the fuck I got community banned by the Atheism community as a card carrying atheist:

[–] assassinatedbyCIA@lemmy.world 55 points 1 year ago

How can you be an atheist when you have g*d in your username. Checkmate theist/s

[–] nottheengineer@feddit.de 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The atheism community is such a circlejerk that I decided to block it. So, congratulations I guess.

"Next on the agenda: still no gods"

[–] SchizoDenji@lemm.ee 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Good to see lemmy has already inherited the worst of reddit's issues: Shitty powertripping moderators.

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't see an easy way to fix it

[–] timestatic@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Make the community be able to vote kick or vote for new Moderators although that would maybe just make the circlejerking even worse

[–] Esqplorer@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 year ago

You'd get brigading and bot led hostile takeovers

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 7 points 1 year ago

Yes, that's very hard to implement. How do you prevent bots from voting? Thinking about it gives me headache

[–] SchizoDenji@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Modlog for all actions including every single ban and the conversation about it and a way for a user to report mod abuse to admins.

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 1 points 1 year ago

Great unless mods are the actual admins

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even worse are power tripping instance admins.

Turns out there are no cards in atheism.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You'd think I'd be the one banned for saying that the water pistol was full of the priest's semen.

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Interesting how the parents aren’t masked up at all. I’m wondering they were part of the anti-mask crowd snd didn’t even care about all of these precautions anyways. At least the priest was trying to stay safe, but yeah, it looks silly as fuck. You’d think they’d just let the parents have done it instead, or does the holy water behave differently when splashed by a priest vs your parents?

[–] RQG@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Maybe that'd establish a precedent that a Priest wasn't actually needed for the ceremony.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it takes great carefulness to remain uselessly employed.

[–] theragu40@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Not sure if you're looking for an honest answer but the funniest/dumbest thing about this picture is that no, the "rules" are that anyone can baptize someone else. So it definitely doesn't need to be a priest. This entire scenario is completely unnecessary.

[–] Stoneykins@mander.xyz 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've always wondered if this photo would be better or worse if he used both hands on the gun instead of just one.

[–] dingus@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Should have gone with dual wielding.

[–] naticus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah, the old JOHNWOO code...

[–] dingus@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Makes me feel very old that you're right about that 😬😂

[–] c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

If it's ok for Master Chief and Woo, it's good enough for you too!

Most Metal Stage of the Pandemic

People were drowning in their own necrotic lung tissue. That is far more metal than a guy in a robe playing with a squirt pistol in a church.

[–] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Imagine working in the ICU and having people you try to save die on a daily basis just because they would not get the vaccine and you have to pull double shifts because of it. I'd have quit in the first couple of months probably. How they managed to even get up in the morning and force their body to go to work I will never be able to understand.

[–] Patches@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ask anyone who worked in healthcare and them not taking the vaccine wasn't the real problem.

It was the combativeness, the level of self delusion, entitlement, and often physically violent nature of those people. And unfortunately a lot of them survived.

Daily reminder that people were getting shot for not giving gran pappy's brother, and cousin, horse dewormer so they can shit their brains out. Or for asking to wear a mask.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

And unfortunately a lot of them survived.

A tragedy really lol

A good perusal of modern autopsy reports would provide a lifetime of material.

[–] 30p87@feddit.de 12 points 1 year ago

Some would say baptism is weird, no matter the circumstances

[–] Mindrest@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] Kerred@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Pretty clever too, Religion, firearms, and masks. They taped together three internet flame wars all in one, I love it.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Staged or not, it's still pretty metal.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago
[–] vivadanang@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Strongly disagree, when a US president suggested we inject bleach and shove light sources into people, that was the most insane stage.

This is insane outside pandemics in 2023

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Love seeing that community mods are gunggo banning people for fuck all no reason, no warning and no direct communication. Really gives me hope Lemmy will be better than Reddit /s

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Baptism by watergun. Funniest thing I've ever seen.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As a metalhead, no, idiots continuing to play make-believe during a pandemic was not metal. This was idiotic.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Bro if the image of a priest aiming a gun at an infant isn't anything to you, damn
